HELP-my first indecisive vendor moment!!

HELP-my first indecisive vendor moment!!

So I have been so good with being confident in my vendor choices throughtout this wedding process. Well yesterday I saw a post on here about pennylane productions and I fell in love..like overly obsessed love. I havent stopped thinking about this all day.
I currently booked my videographer with my photographer company simply because of convenience but now I think I might want to switch. The problem is…pennylane is double the price of my current video!
I havent proposed this idea to FH yet. All day I have been working out the figures to see if its feasable. Im thinking I might be able to negotiate as well. I have to wait til Monday to speak with a manager at my photog company to see what their procedure would be IF I even wanted to delete video from my contract. Im thinking they might keep my deposit.

Am I crazy for even entertaining this idea? Have any of you gone through anything like this with a vendor choice?

You sound like me!!!!

I had the same EXACT issue!

I sat DH down and said listen, I’m really second guessing the video. I feel like I just need to go out there and see what we can do. He agreed (albeit grudgingly) and knew that I wouldn’t sleep at night until I at least went and saw some other vendors.

When we went to see Pennylane he was in love with Adam’s work. We saw the prices and I could tell by looking at him that it wasn’t going to work. UNTIL- Adam pointed out that only 2/3 are due before the wedding. That sealed it for us and made it work. Another thing that we did was add our highlight AFTER the wedding. We knew we wanted it, but didn’t need to pay for it up front. We added it afterwards and just paid for it later. The only things you can’t do that with is day of things—like same day edits or getting ready footage.

I would never want to convince someone to do something that they couldn’t afford- but I can tell you that I couldn’t afford it at the time either. Money has a WHOLE different value before your wedding then it does afterwards. You count every single penny and life is just not like that after the wedding! I am so glad we did it because I have this amazing film that will last FOREVER! The whole day went by so fast that I wouldn’t remember half of it if not for Pennylane!

And don’t get me wrong—any videographer will give you something to remember always—but Pennylane is definitely cutting edge and they know how to capture the emotion of the day!

The first thing I would do before you think for even ONE MORE SECOND about this--- is call Pennylane to see if they’re available. The last thing you want is to finally convince yourself and your FH and then find out that they’re not available.

I’d do that first and take it from there. Good luck!

Go with your gut. If you can get back your deposit and you're not stretched thin, go for it. If its gonna be too much of a hassle and you'll lose your deposit, I am sure you'll be in good hands with your current videographer

Hey Jackie!
All I can say is, Penny Lane is awesome.
My photographer works with them quite often.
We are using a company from westchester whose work is very similar to Penny Lane anjd are equally as awesome. We are spending a bit more than we'd like, but we know the quality is worth it.

Video, in my opinion, is VERY important....I want to re live that day as much as possible!!

I have heard that they are phenomenal!
If you feel like eating the deposit would not be the worst thing in the world, go for it!!
You only get one wedding! Well, hopefully anyway!

i have a feeling my FH is gonna flip when i tell him the price so maybe i should just take him there instead to see them and see his reaction.

YES!! Definately take him there! That's sort of what I did with DH-- Adam's work speaks for itself!

If you're smart about this.... and you only put in your package what you need the day of and you remember that you only have to pay the 2/3-- I bet you can totally swing it.

And if your gut is telling you to switch then I'd hold firm with your FH--- this is forever we're talking about!! haha!!

Tell Adam we said hi!! I'll be in there next week to pick up my raw footage (any excuse to hang out with him! He and DH get along great!!)

Good luck!

WAIT!!! Don't just call your photog like that and ask!!!!!!!!

FIRST- check your contract to see if it's itemized-- that is BEST case scenario. If it's itemized there should be no reason why you can't just reduce the amount.

SECOND: if it's not itemized DO NOT MENTION CANCELLING. Just say something crypic like you're trying to see where everything fits in the budget and you want to know what the video package is costing (try to get this in an email)

THEN: Once you know the price either itemized or from asking-- ONLY at that point should you mention canceling and ask that the contract be reduced. As long as you're nice about it (it's akward, let me tell you that) they shouldn't give you a hard time- afterall, they're still getting your photos which is where they make their real money. The video is just an add on for them.

If you just mention canceling before you find out what the video package is costing-- they'll probably tell you that it's a really low number so that they don't have to give you much back!! Do your research and make sure that they are fair and you're not suddenly paying more than you should with photo.

That's what happened to me-- in the end i know I paid more because of canceling. But I dont care! I would have paid it three times over for Adam!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK!! And I am glad to find other Pennylane Junkies like me!! haha!!

Re: HELP-my first indecisive vendor moment!!

jackie and rita -- if you are thinkin of switchin up your video for something different like pennylane, you should also check out JPI Films (they are a vendor on here)

I was verrrry picky about video. FH and I considered pennylane but opted to go with JPI. Both or equally talented. JPI is a little bit cheaper (not much tho), but i think they are both worth looking into!

if you have any questions bout JPI, FM me!

Good lucK!!

Why not call and ask them what the package is costing you?

They have to be reasonable- they're still your vendor!

After seeing Pennylane I definitely second guessed my choice and was about to lose a $700 deposit. The more I think about it I think I'm nuts, haha. I really love Pennylane's work, but I really think I'd be nuts to lose money and on top of that spend more for my video. I decided to just stick with what I've got and I'm working on music choices for the video. I think the right music also can make or break your video.
