HELP! planning small wedding

hi everyone- i am brand new to LIW's. i am technically not engaged yet (its a whole other story) but my boyfriend and i are doing the research for our wedding. we are planning something very small and affordable. and we're aiming for 2011. we're planning on having 75-90 guests. so far, i have e-mailed several reception halls and it seems like theyre not very impressed with our short guest list. they are either telling me that they do not hold weddings that small or they are offering a saturday afternoon. im not crazy about that idea -- id really prefer an evening. it doesnt have to be saturday though.. im actually really open to friday or sunday as long as its in the evening.
i have always pictured a fall or winter wedding. i have my heart set on november but if there is a winter month at a really nice place thats affordable id do it in a second.
so my question to you girls is -- do you know of any recpetion halls that will accommodate 75-90 people for a friday or sunday(or saturday if reasonably priced)? I have never pictured myself in a typical reception hall setting. i honestly LOVE the woodlands. but they are not replying to my e-mails!!

Re: HELP! planning small wedding

I had a small wedding (we eventually would up with 66 people, us included!). We were given a package at Crest Hollow, one flat price for up to 100 people (which worked out to $61 pp if we had 100 people) for a winter Sunday wedding.

If you want to do a winter friday or sunday wedding you can get really good prices and lower minimums.

ETA - We didn't go with Crest hollow in the end, but they were our second choice. we also got a low min from Terrace on the Park (for their smaller downstairs room) and the Windwatch Hotel.

You may get better responses/answers if you call up the halls.
Good Luck!

Leonard's gave me a minimum of 50 people and also Swan Club can give you a small minimum.

I jsut read a review in the bride review chat room for a bride at the Watermill with like 55 guests (though I'm partial ;) ). Not sure if it was an evening wedding though.

Westbury Manor has a small room for your size wedding.

I would also check out the George Washington Manor and the Old Field Club.

Larkfield Manor was willing to give us a min of 100 in May so they may be able to lower their min for you if you are getting married in the Winter.

We guarenteed 100 people for a friday during the summer. Call RHs if you can. The lessings site fee is a fee for using the space and then you pay the price pp on top of that....basically the site fee allways you to hold ur wedding in that space.

You will run into the site fee at locations for which Lessings caters, yet does not own - such as the Vanderbilt estates, or the Bourne Mansion. There is no site fee for Smithtown Landing, Timber Point, or West Sayville Country Club. If you're looking to get married in the off-season, it is possible that any of these 3 places might work with your minimum. We had our reception last summer at Timber Point, and I'd highly reccomend it any engaged couple.

The Irish Coffee Pub was also a place we seriously considered, and it would be beautiful in the fall. They only required a 75 person minimum when we were looking, at $95/pp. Their package was very generous, and the Waterford room is gorgeous.

Check out Old Field Club in Setauket. Their minimum for Friday or Sunday is 100 guests, however, other brides have negotiated with the manager to have a lower minimum. It is gorgeous there, right on the water with high vaulted ceilings. You should definitely check it out! FM me if you have any questions.

Not that I'm biased but the Swan Club's smallest room has a min of 40 people and their largest a min of 160. I'm sure they can assist.

You really should call them and speak with a manager: 516.621.7600, Jordana is great!

Does the hall have to be in LI or are you willing to travel? I'm having about 85-100 people and the place I got only requires a min of 65 people, but it's in Staten Island. Not sure if that is too far for you. Vetro, which is owned by Russo's on the Bay and also the Douglastan Manor will hold small weddings. I would def. call both places. If you want info on my hall, FM me.
