HELP! planning small wedding

Re: HELP! planning small wedding

Try the Coral House, Swan Club, Fox Hollow, Milleridge Inn and Westbury Manor. We had a smaller guest list and they were fine with us having it on a Saturday evening. We ended up with a sunday only because Sat. was already booked, but Coral House & Swan Club were giving us amazing prices for saturday evenings. FM if you would like more details. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the help ladies. I think im going to try calling some places. my b/f even suggested going to see places but since i dont have a ring yet i felt a little funny about it. like they wouldnt take us too seriously or something???

well thanks again!

We actually viewed all of the halls and booked a place before I had a ring -- we were getting 'officially' engaged over a particular weekend but we had the time to look and book before that weekend happened. No one seemed to care.

Most of the places that we visited were just fine with our guest list of about that size. Just understand that you may not be able to get a good 'deal' when you don't have over 100 guests.

Some venues that we visited (with low minimums):
Chateau La Mer
Windows on the Lake
The Thatched Cottage
Sandcastle
Swan Club
Timber Point
Huntington Harbor Club
Lombardi's
East Wind
Land's End
Coindre Hall
Vanderbilt Mansion

I don't remember where else but our minimum originally was around 60. HTH!

I'm getting married at Riccardo's by the Bridge in Astoria. It's really nice. They have two rooms that they ask for a guaranteed 75 ppl.... And the prices are very affordable. FM me if you want specific price info. I just booked and have the price list handy.

try westbury manor ;)

Re: HELP! planning small wedding

Westbury Manor has a low minimum. We are having a Saturday night wedding and they had no problem with it. Their smaller room only holds 100 people so it's very intimate and definately not a 'catering hall' feel

I have a 90min on a September Saturday night

Def try westbury manor or the Metropolitan in Glen Cove. The met has an upstairs areas for a regular reception but also 'the club' for a smaller minimum. The place is great and the food excellent!!

I heard of Vetro (the same owners as Russo's) but I havent been able to find a lot of info on it. Are they open yet?

I was even thinking about having it in a nice restaurant that had a private room. There is a restaurant in Floral Park that FH and I love, but the name of it is Bob's Place. Could you imagine THAT on a wedding invitation. People would think they were coming to a BBQ joint. LOL

Also, I checked out Blackstone's Steak house. It looks really nice but I am still on the fence about restaurant vs. reception hall.

Lots of stuff to think about!

We are having a small wedding at west sayville country club. Our min is 50. We had the same reaction that you did when contacting places. That's why when we found our place we knew that was the one. They were so great to work with and could get the place to ourselves. We are having a Sunday night.
We did visit the swan club which is beautiful also and they have a small room. Lombardis on the bay also has a 75 min on the main room-but like you said I think its a sat afternoon. Fm me if you need more info.

Definitely check out the Old Field Club. They do one wedding at a time and don't require a large head count to book. We're having around 100ppl, but were initially anticipating around the same amount to show as you. Definitely go see them. It's a beautiful place!

Vetro just opened this month to the public I believe, or it might be next, but isn't holding parties there until Oct. You have to call Russo's on the Bay to get pricing and information on Vetro.

Vetro looks very interesting but its website makes it to look like it is still in construction... and it says they are booking now for autumn weddings but, I feel iffy booking something I can't see complete. I want to look into that myself.

try Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown. They are flexible especially in the off season

my experience:

we were planning our wedding in a short time frame (4 months after engagement). Because it was a last minute call, a lot of places were willing to give us a good deal (including lowering minimum guest count to 75ppl).

You can try that but you just can't be too picky with the dates. have to go with whatever they have left.

Larkfield Manor has a smaller room that holds up to about 120 people. we had it for Sun nite with guarantee of 60. so check with them.
It was wonderful and the people are great to work with. there are pics in my album and a slidehow of the place in my video lib if you want to see what it's like. good luck.

Re: HELP! planning small wedding

I went to the Woodlands today and they want a guarantee of 175 for a Saturday evening (at 160/head) and 120 for a Friday evening. The place is very pretty and has that hostorical feel that I love but out of my price range and I don't think I could find 175 people I care enough about to invite if I tried.

Good luck with the small wedding. Even at 120-140 we're getting guff from places for wanting a Sturday evening. Let me know whaty you find out though!

Re: HELP! planning small wedding

Vetro Is still in construction, first party slated for 10/2009 and for a Staturday evening they want a 90 person guarantee which isn't bad. They're estimating that the room maxes out at 130- 140 right now and 150 is out of the question... but you'd be the only bride there.
