HELP!!! Reception Hall dilemna

Original post by mls282

So... I finally made it down to Long Sialnd to check out places and I am sooooo confused!!!

I saw:
Chateau Le Mer
Fox Hollow
Chateau Briand
Leonard's
Jericho terrace

I ruled out Chateua Briand so far. Although the price is good and package is great it's just not my style.

Chateu Le Mer I thought was the one.... until they told me that gorgeous room would not be mine since I have only 120 guests and you need 150 minimum on a Friday night ofr the big gorgoues room. The other room was very unimpressive to me for the price. I was sooo sad. It''s very my style with indoor/outdoor cocktail area and huge windows by the water, and skylight.

Fox Hollow seemed not my style at first as it was very countryiush but they were so nice and their pacakge and food sounded amazing. Also winter garden was soo beautiful for my reception. but it still was not what I saw for my wedding.

Jericho terrace was my 2nd favorite after Chateau Le Mer. They only have 1 day available and again they needed a 150 minimum like Chateu le Mer.

leonard's was gorgeous and the price was right. But there seemed to be too many things going on.

I ams sooo confused. Should I up my minmum from 120 to 150 to get one of my top 2 choices? I am not sure if I can afford it and I dont want to over extend myself.

Or are there other places that have what I am looking for that I have not seen yet. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Re: HELP!!! Reception Hall dilemna

I would stay away from increasing your mininum, especially by that many, because you will still have to pay the RH for the amount of guests you guaranteed in your contract. (We got more nos than we expected unfortunately so we are stuck paying the bill for guests that won't be there). :(

I would try to go with CLM because it sounds like you love it. You would still have the great view for CH and actually it's a better view (IMO) from the upstairs room. I know you are disappointed but I would go visit them and take another look. JMO...Good luck

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I am going to go back to CLM today or maybe tomorrow and talk to them see what I can do. The other halls actually included just as much for a better price so I was a bit disappointed at that for a Friday at least. Other threw in ice carvings, some desert trays and extras. CLM offered no extras and at least up front refused to budge. If anyone has any tips or experience with negotiating please FM me. I know from on here that other girls got a lower minimum on the ballroom but I dont know if I want to say well I read it on liweddings.com...LOL.
Thanks!

If you have a saturday or sunday day wedding at clm the minumum in the downstairs room lowers to 125.. also are u including your vendors as part of your numbers cause thats gonna up it a little..

Since you have a small guestlist, you may want to consider Caffe on the Green in Bayside, Queens...they have an upstairs room with a gorgeous view, and the grounds are very beautiful, too. Plus the food (and especially the cake!) is great!

Good luck at CLM!

I know Jericho Terrace was willing to work with my minmum because I am having a Thursday wedding, is that something you would consider?

Re: HELP!!! Reception Hall dilemna

Update: So all went well. he ended up dropping the price on Friday night but wouldn't budge on the minmum so it was still out of our range. I didn't want to over extend myself this early on the planning... monetarily. Then I asked about Sunday evening and the price he gave us was amazing and we can afford it with 150 people! So we get the place we want, the room we want and can still do it in the evening!!! YAY!!!! It's not official yet but the day is reserved for us and we are going to review contract before committing... hopefully all will go well!!!
Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!!

Are you inviting 120 or will 120 be coming for sure? Have you looked at Sans Souci?
It's gorgeous (one wedding at a time) and perfect for a smaller/medium affair. Check out my review for pics and FM w/ any questions

Hamlet wind watch in haupaggue is beautiful. I looked at all of those places and felt the same way. Then looked at the Hamlet and absolutely loved it.

I was having the same problem. All the places we were looking at came in above out budget or making us increase out minimum. We ended up booking with North Ritz Club (just up the road from Fox Hollow) The price was right, we didnt have to up out minimum, its a one event at a time place and it gave us the most for our money. We delt with Nadine there and she was great. You can def negotiate with her and the place was just perfect for us. Def check them out

Re: HELP!!! Reception Hall dilemna

I got married there! It was just beautiful, exactly what I wanted in a reception hall. Not too huge, and one party at a time, on the water, and classic LI
Check out my review for pics if you want
