My invitations will arrive from the vendor tonight. (Yes I am VERY excited) Originally I had planned to use a script computer font to print the name and address on the inner and outer envelope.
I mentioned this to my mother a few weeks ago and she said absolutely not. I know that tecnically it's in poor taste to print these items, but we do not have the budget for a professional caligrapher, and I figured it would save time.
My mother has kindly offered to address everything either using her handwriting (which is very pretty) or calligraphy which she knows but does not practice often. My concern is that she lives far away, is very busy and I think she is grossly underestimating how long it will take to do this. Sadly we are running out of time and its making me very nervous that it will turn into a disaster.
I think I could get her to compromise if I could find a font that is not distinguishable from natural handwriting. I have heard that real handwriting fonts exist before but cannot seem to find any. I'm looking for something elegant and flourished. Does anyone have any suggestions??? I've tried Dafont but none of them look like real handwriting.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Re: Help with Font for Invitations- desperate
Not only did I print the outer envelope, I USED LABELS!
Your post said you were printing the address on the inner and outer envs. I would hand-write the inner, but make the post office's job easy - use a legible font. No one, and I mean NO ONE who is not currently embroiled in some flame-worthy post about addressing envelopes will even notice that they're printed.

Re: Help with Font for Invitations- desperate
I personally printed my envelopes on the computer. I had many compliments on them.
I put this collection of fonts together for another LIW Bride. If you like any of these FM me and I'll email the file to install on your home PC to print yourself.

Freehand 591BT - my mom complemented me on my writing...
cant post pix since im not at my computer, but ihave pix in my album. i opted for printed calligraphy because i fell in love with the way it looked and preferred it to most hand written (im very very picky with hand-written calligraphy)
i'm not a fan of labels, but if you use a nice font, i dont think there is anything wrong with printing the addresses

Thank you all very much for your quick reply. All of your invitations are lovely.
I hope you didn't take my mothers bias against printing as an insult to your choice to print. It is just a personal preference of hers. And something I know she feels is an important gesture. We all have our quirks right =)
Anyway- keep the ideas coming, hopefully I can show her a bunch and we can find one that she agrees does not look like it was printed.

Re: Help with Font for Invitations- desperate
i think in the age of digital printing it is no longer taboo to address envelopes with a printer...there are even companies that do this for you! My whole invite was a DIY done on my home printer... but i am also never one to follow the 'rules'...maybe if you tell your mom this she won't mind?

I had mine printed also by the company who did my invites and it looks great. Just do it yourself and safe yourself the stress from worrying about it.

Honey Script and Allura (from dafont.com) are nice handwriting scripts
We used BrockScript, which we downloaded from dafont.com

I used Edwardian Script ITC on mine, I blocked out the names, but u can get the gyst of it. I'd stay away from handwriting it yourself unles your mom has a very extremely neat handwriting. go to dafont.com and u can download a bunch of fonts to use.

Re: Help with Font for Invitations- desperate
my font is Chopin Script.
Nowadays its common practice to print the envelopes. Calligraphy is nice but NO ONE is going to take real notice of it.

I couldn't agree more! Only three (out of 175!!) people noticed my custom stamps and I doubt anyone cared that the outer envelopes were printed. They could've been done by hand or with labels and no one would care but its your wedding and you should do whatever makes you happy.

Re: Help with Font for Invitations- desperate
Sadly I don't think its a matter of if our guests would notice or care. My mother cares and would notice so she is not comfortable sending out anything that looks printed. Thats why I was hoping we could find something that would look hand done.
In the event that anyone else is in this situation I just found this website:
This person will put your own handwriting into a font. I might do this with my mothers handwriting since it is beautiful but I could do all of the envelopes without waiting for her.
If I end up trying it I will be sure to report back.
