Is this possible? I am trying to plan a less-formal beach-atmosphere wedding for Aug.-Oct. 2008 for approximately 100 guests. I have looked into the beautiful Long Island beach wedding locales such as Gurney's, Atlantica, etc. however I have a moral problem with spending so much money on a wedding. Therefore, I am trying to plan something less expensive, less formal, but not cheesy. My fiance and I are laid-back and open minded, and love the beach! There seems to be a lot of experience and great ideas on this board.... HELP!

Re: Help with Informal Beach Wedding Planning
We went to a wedding on Fire Island a few summers ago. It was at a place called the Casino at Davis Park. Very informal, but right on the beach!

Lessings runs weddings at the Sunken Meadow Pavilion, you should check out their website. It looks like you can decorate it nicely but still have it be laid back. Pavilion at Sunken Meadow
ETA its right on the beach and you can do a beach ceremony there too

Great idea!! I went to a wedding there 2 years ago and it was beautiful. I think it might be exactly what you're looking for!

I have read very mixed reviews of Sunken Meadow. Went I looked at it, I wasn't all that impressed for $100+ per person.

Miller Beach Surf Club has an amazing ceremony site with a wonderful view of the l.i. sound in the background and a nice reception room. It's perfect for a small wedding. The cocktail hour is out on the deck that faces the same view as the ceremony. Their packages start from $45 pp and up.

Hmm...I think someone on here is getting married at the Ocean Club too. You need a member as a sponsor, but I remember her saying that it wasn't hard to get one. Or if you know someone else who belongs to a private beach club, maybe you can ask about having it there. I know there are weddings at ours occasionally.

Re: Help with Informal Beach Wedding Planning
Wow. I should have posted on this board a lot sooner.
I like the looks of the Casino at Davis Park site - I had never heard of it and am looking into it. Thank you!
I looked at the Miller Beach Surf Club, but I found it to be a little boring.
I don't have an exact budget in mind but I can say that I find prices in excess of $100 per person to be painfully expensive and I am not interested in having a $30k affair.
I tried to get info. on the Atlantic Beach Club, however I don't know anyone from that area as a sponsor. Where else are there weddings at private beach clubs? I looked into the one at Shoreham, but they wanted close to $4k just to rent the place.
Thanks!!!!!!

Re: Help with Informal Beach Wedding Planning
The prices drop drastically if you have a Friday night wedding and even more if you have a Thursday or Sunday night wedding. I opted for the Sunday night wedding---for $ reasons and also because we are having a smaller wedding and couldn't meet the minimum head counts for other nights.
The Casino is VERY laid back. We had a great time!

Re: Help with Informal Beach Wedding Planning
Hi, I went to a wedding a few years ago at what was then the Shoreham country club.I think it is now Lessings Tall Grass Country Club.It was so pretty, had large windows so there was a lot of light and the back deck overlooked the water. There was a long staircase leading to the beach. My friend had wanted something beachy and laid back but nice, and that was definately all of the above.I was very impressed and loved the view(I am going with a beach theme too). The dance floor was definately a decent size too.The website looks like it is more affordable than $100 pp Hope this helps

What about Sunset Harbor? I believe it is on the water, just not the beach.
Chateau La Mer on a Sunday during the day could be worth a try as well. Again not a beach but it is on the water. Its beautiful there (of course I am sort of biased).

I was just going to suggest ABC -- my friends got married there and it was beautiful. Exactly what you described laid back beachy but not at all cheesey.
I didn't know you needed a sponsor to get married there.
You can also look into renting a house out east a co-worker of mine did that too. Very nice.

Quoque Village Beach has a lovely pavillion. Although I don't know if you have to be a resident to have it there.
The venue has a kitchen onsite.
I don't know if it could hold 100 people in bad weather though.

Another nice smaller venue is Oaklands in Hampton Bays right on Dune Road. And there is another place a few doors down and the name is slipping my mind right now. I went to a wedding there last year. They got married on the beach in Hampton Bays (Ponguoge) and then we drove across the street to the restaurant. It was awesome!!!

Re: Help with Informal Beach Wedding Planning
My friend got married right on the beach on Fire Island (ocean beach). After the ceremony, we walked to Maguires because that's where the reception was (5min walk). It was during the day, the weather was great and it was beautiful. She got married in the first week of Sept. and the weather was in the 80's. Not to mention she saved a ton of money because it was after Labor Day. Good luck!

Re: Help with Informal Beach Wedding Planning
I had a very casual tent wedding in Hampton Bays with about 110 guests...no suits or tuxes, not much structure...just lots of great food, music and fun. DH & i are very casual and did not want a typical wedding. Check out my review and FM me if you have questions!
