Help with small gift ideas, please!

Help with small gift ideas, please!

We are going to visit DH's family if FL soon and I want to bring some small gifts to them while we are visiting. They are being kind enough to put us up while we are there, so this is important to me.

What can we bring? My Mom suggested something that is uniquely 'Long Island,' but aside from bagels and pizza (or any other 'food' item), I'm not sure what qualifies (and can make the trip via airplane).

I was thinking of just getting some small items - like Easter decor for their homes or something. I'm just looking for a small, thoughtful token - not looking to make any fancy statements or break the bank.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Im thinking along the lines of what youre saying too CLaud, decor for the home, token gifts.

How about pot holder/oven mitts, if she cooks alot. Or something for her kitchen, a magnet, coffee mug, something with Pauls photo (or just a frame with his photo-that will ALWAYS do the trick )
and maybe make an item 'From Paul' (Photo Keychain? They sell em at Michaels for $1)

I cant think of anything 'Long Island' since I didnt really grow up here... A bottle of wine?

A few Aunts of mine/John LOVE getting items that they use/come across/see often in their day to day routine.

Hope that helps

ETA:I would make a small basket of these items.

I would get a bottle of LI wine, and a pic with paul in a frame, like anna suggested.

I'd definitely think anything housewarm'y'....like soaps in a basket, candles. I think they'd enjoy anything with Paul's pic in it, no? Who wouldn't?

A couple bottles of Pindar are usually my signature out-of-state gift. They have the wines named for the seasons...Winter White, Spring Splendor, Summer Blush and Autumn Gold. Maybe a bottle of each or just the Spring and Summer....

You might want to bring some bagels with you- my friend's from out of state love getting a good NY bagel.

Thanks you guys....keep 'em coming, if you can! I can't do wine b/c one side of the family just does not drink (religious reasons), and the other side has a history of alcohol problems...otherwise the wine would be a slam dunk!

And one question that I'd love some opinions on....when do photo gifts of one's child become overkill? Because I feel like we've done that so much already... Just want to get a sense of what everyone else thinks...

Hmm.....I don't know, I love photos, but I don't know what I would do if someone kept giving me framed photos. I only have so much space to display them, you know? Maybe get them a nice photo album or photo box with a few recent pictures. This way they will always have something nice to put the photos in, and maybe they could rotate the new pictures into the frames and put the older ones in the album.

This is just an idea - but what about taking pics of Paul with them while you're down there, then when you return sending the pics to them in pretty frames or photobooks? I love pics of my cousins/friend's kids/ but I love it too when I'm in it - LOL

As for something to bring down - what about a Junior's cheesecake? I know it's not LI but it is a NY thing.

I know its already the month of March - but why not make a photo calendar in Shutterfly (or one of those programs?) They are inexpensive. You can include pics of your DH's family, your son, LI sites, etc. It will be a yr round photo keepsake and also something they can hang in the house...

I will say that my brother lives in Florida and l he loves getting New York bagels. We usually pick them up on the way to the airport and carry them on.

I think the LI wine is a nice idea. Kind of hard to fly down with though. Could you buy something there?

I think family loves pictures of kids - they change so much when they are this young.

What about making a special meal while you are there?

Sending flowers or a plant to the house? You can do this before you get there.

Guest towels (like a hand towel or fingertip towel) and some pretty soaps & lotion.

homemade cookies - they would pack well in a tin.
