Has anyone ever heard of giving your guests small empty personalized boxes/containers (the ones you can fill and give as favors) and when the cake/dessert comes out, you can have candy jars put on everyones table and they can fill up their boxes with the various candies on the table and take it home as their favor?
Sounds like an interesting idea...

i want to talk it over my my RH but i think i might incorporate that with my VH... I don't even know WHAT goes into my VH all I know is that's the only thing I care about.

Yes, it is becoming a very popular thing to do. It's sometimes called a candy bar or a candy buffet. This serves as a favor for lots of people. Personally, I think it is enough of a favor. It's no different than giving out a cupcake or something else edible.
I want to do one, but we are having a VH, so I feel like it may be overkill and guests may think it's part of the VH and not a favor.

I think it is a great idea as a favor. That way you can enjoy the candy after the wedding and keep the celebration with you.

see I'm going to try and just get little containers to put out during the VH and ask my RH to put out jars of candy along with everything else served during the VH so if people are full from the cocktail hour and dinner but have a sweet tooth they can pack up some dessert for the ride home. I don't plan on using it as a 100% final favor- just a little extra.

I think it's cute but if it was my only favor I think I'd feel like I was at a Sweet 16. Depends on the mood of your wedding.

I don't think it's like a Sweet 16 at all. I've been to a few weddings now that were beautiful and elegant where people had it at the end of the night and everyone RAVED about it as the best thing they'd seen. We are doing it for our wedding too. I bought a bunch of pretty cannisters that are in our color scheme and will have it as people are heading out at the end of the night. I've seen people who had all sorts of 'old time' candy from when you were kids as well as just some of the main standbys that most people like. I think it's great. Good luck to you. I plan on doing a candy buffet at my wedding. I'm getting the glass jars from either ikea or oriental trading. Since the theme for my wedding is chocolate i plan on having mostly chocolates.
