I feel a bit overwhelmed with doing so many rooms at once (After the floors each room refinished will be refinished, if that makes sense!) so I wanna focus on one room at a time. Although there's no rush, I DO want to get them all somewhat done in a decent amount of time... (LR, DR, 3 BR's) Corridor. Foyer.
BEDROOM. Help me brainstorm what I need to shop for. -Paint (I really want a ragging or sponging effect) and as much as I prefer NOT to do white or beige. I really dont want 'color' because Id rather have something more neutral so I can change my bedding and window treatments every now and then... -Crown molding (the thinnest possible) Will this make the room feel smaller? Its already a small room, but I figured the really thin molding will be just a touch. -That frame around the ceiling fan. Forgot what its called Its almost like a molding effect around the base of the ceiling fan. -Curtains. Rods. -Lamp (never bought one, waiting for this revamp!) -Closet doors-definately NOT mirrored again. Should we do bifold or sliding. again, small room. Am I forgetting anything? I really dont want any stenciling or detailing to make the room feel smaller... although Id love a warm touch.. maybe a fake plant? on a very narrow plant stand?
Any ideas are welcome

Re: HELP..Bedroom REVAMP from head to toe.
I found that my choice of closet doors will probably be dictated by the size of the closet opening. I wanted bi-fold so I could open the whole thing up, but my opening is about an inch too narrow for standard sizing, and I don't want to go custom. So I'll probably settle for sliding and that's probably a better option anyway for a small room. I just think it makes it harder to get access to the closet.

How about ragging ivory/tan/neutral family on white or maybe even a light yellow....this way it is still neutral and you can change your bedding to it? (I know what you mean with this, you should never get stuck!)
I don't know anything about crown moulding but I would love it so it would hide the mistakes of my color of my walls on my ceiling!

If you are very concerned about making the room seem smaller, doing any sort of paint effect or color will probably not help.
Personally, I wouldnt worry about making a room feel smaller. The size is the size and no matter what you do, its the same size. Better for it to look really put together, polished and a reflection of you than to look a tad bigger. Particularily with a bedroom, a cozy room is not a bad thing. Ok, end of ranting and raving :D
What sort of 'feeling' are you going for in the room? What kind of furniture do you have?
If you want to stay in the neutral colors, how about a striped effect...like ultra gloss beige and flat beige in thick vertical stripes around the room. That would give a more refined, upscale look.
I love the look of crown moldings. My friend just painted her bedroom tiffany blue and had nice crown mouldings painted white put up and new wood floors put down. Really classic looking but not boring. She added this lamp which I love, love, love

Kelly I know exactly what you mean! Our house is just in the finishing stages of being built and to decorate every room is stressful. I thougt I was going to enjoy it, but it has been more stess then anything!!

If you really love faux finishes but are concerned about the size of the room how about just doing it on one wall. If you have a full wall that you place your bed and night stands on doing that wall in a faux finish would look nice.
I used a combination ragging and solid in my hallway and I think it added some visual width. But then again anything is better then the foil blue and silver tree wallpaper that was up.

Fran foil blue and silver wallpaper UGh makes my wallpaper sound gorgeous!
Stef-I definately dont want any stripes whatsoever. even though I do like how they look in certain rooms. The room now has this BUSY wallpaper, with vertical stripes from mid-point and up, and floral blue on the bottom half, and this border wrapping around the closet doors. I am SOO READY to see this room with bare, calm walls. this is my bedroom set. (we have the armoire, dresser/mirror and one nightstand) we never put the posts on the bed, but we want to try them out this time. Im looking to get that warm feeling. right now its floral and white and SO NOT WARM. SO NOT ME. I Hate being in my bedroom I cant beleive what a mistake it was to NOT redo the colors and the room itself when we moved it. we figured it wasnt urgent. Anyway. I tend to gravitate towards those orangey-brownish colors when I look at the sponge effect samples. But im wondering how lavendar/plum bedding would look with that. I HOPE to find a nice bedding set in the purple family. gotta get that out of my system.
and my window are very short and small. maybe 34X34 so will it look silly to have curtains a bit lower than the window? the window sill is like at my neckline lets say. I think no matter how long the curtain is, it wont really matter right? I HATE just valances. hate it hate it hate it. when i moved out here i couldnt beleive how common it was. the window looks naked to me without full drapes.
If you already have stripes, I can see how you would never want to see them again.
I love the orangy rag effect on walls but i find that its not really a tranquil look for bedrooms - both the yellow/orange color which i think is better for kitchens and room that are 'alive' and the rag effect which is a bit chaotic. Just my opinion.
How about using one of the Ralph Lauren finishing techniques to get a leather look to your walls? You can still use a neutral color but get a designer look. I think a leather look with that furniture would be a really nice match.
Or if you want something a little more airy, they also have this linen texture which is really cool looking..but it has the linen texture which might be too reminscient of stripes for you. Ralph Lauren Linen

A friend of mine has that leather effect and I DROOL over it. I guess its one of those things I thought was so complicated to do... I might consider that. I hope the cost of the paint isnt triple Behrs prices. and I hope it isnt too complicated for my simple husband I hope it wont look/feel too much like wallpaper.
Ugh, the brainstorming I have ahead of me. thanks for the ideas.

If you go to home depot you can see samples of the painted effects on drywall. Its not at all like wallpaper..there is not much touch texture, its all in the look.
Its is a lot more expensive but you probably dont need very much of it.

Re: HELP..Bedroom REVAMP from head to toe.
This is the project I am soon to undertake as well. I also want to do crown molding - I am not sure if it makes a room look smaller but I love the look.
My bedding is a raisin/plumish/brownish color. I want something different for the walls but I don't want to go with too much color because I want to have variety in my bedding and curtains and stuff.
I am thinking maybe doing a light creamy color on the walls and maybe a more light/chocolatey brown over it in some kind of faux finish. Maybe some kind of feathered/brushed look...very light finish. I also like that linen look that Stef posted a link to. Then maybe going with the same chocolate color for the trim.
My master bedroom is kind of big so I am not sure if faux finish will look good on the entire room..so I was also thinking about a chocolate/light brown color on the walls and then a darker brown on the moldings...
I have no clue what to do as far as window treatments. It depends on how we decide to position out furniture (which we still have to buy - but I have it picked out - waiting til next year). I also want to change out my closet doors because I think where they are and they way the doors open makes me waste a lot of space in the room. I am clueless on this area.
I am thinking of some kind of wall light fixtures/lamps on the sides of the beds over the nightstand - I like that look. But that is awhile away for me.

You can also put up a chair rail at a lower height than you would normally put one (even if it is just a thin piece of molding) this can create a longer look to the walls making the room look 'taller' and bigger. You don't even have to do a different color on the bottom but that helps.
I have to agree with Stef that the linen effect may make the room look airy. The leather effect even in a lighter tone may be a bit too heavy in a small room.
As for your drapes I think the curtains can hang below the sil. A friend of mine actually has curtains that 'puddle' on the floor and they are beautiful.
Good luck!!!

Those leather looks, aren't they called Venetian Plaster (S?). They do have them at Home Depot don't know if the guys was just lazy but he said to....you want that it is so expensive. (then I heard him also tell his coworker, that they were a pain to mix) Take it we were going to put it in a few rooms. Not that we listen to him but we had to get the house painted asap and figured we would do it this winter.

Venetian Plaster is different. That is an effect where they actually spread joint compound (or something like it) on your walls in an uneven way and then paint. That is a lot more work and is a big pain in the a$$ to change if you get bored. The RL stuff is just paint.
