I booked Russo's on the Bay for 2007 and I'm having second thoughts about it. Everyone I talk to has had nothing but good things to say. I've never been to a function there so I'm not really sure what to expect. My FH loves it but I hate how it's on a busy road and that it has no gardens or grounds. I feel as if there is nothing majestic about it. I'm so confused I don't know what to do HELP!

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
first calm down..If you really don't like it you can change it..your wedding is in 2007 I am sure they will give you back your deposit...wore thing worse you lose what $1000 (not saying it's not alot but at least you can still go somewhere else).
Go look at other halls and see if you find one you like better. If you do and everyone that has a decision in this agrees you are fine.

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
My cousin had his reception there in May of this year and it was very nice. The place is beautiful, we almost booked with them but they didn't have our date available. Their service is great. Granted they are on a busy road and no real grounds, but the food and service is excellent. You need to ask yourself how important that is to you. If it's REALLY important then I would say keep looking and if you find someplace else, then you cancel. Good luck!!!

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
My brother and SIL got married there a couple of yeas ago in July. The reception was at night, and to be honest, I couldn't tell you what the outside of the front of the place looked like. No one cared. The inside is magnificent. People are still talking about the food and the viennese hour (with fireworks, I might add!) and the elevator in the middle of the dance floor!
You still have time to change if you want. Go there again and look again, you might change your mind. Or, you'll decide to change your hall right then.

If it helps, Russo's is my most favorite reception hall!! I would have gotten married there if I could have afforded it.

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
I'm getting married at Russo's this June. I had the same concerns you do...it's really about what's important to you. As for the outside I really couldn't care less. The guests will be out there for a total of less than 5 minutes but they'll be inside for hours. For the grounds we are looking for someplace to take pics after our ceremony but I probably would have done that regardless if Russo's had or didn't have grounds. If you're not happy and can afford to lose your deposit you should cancel. First and foremost you should be happy with your decision.

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
my parents just went a wedding there in Oct. and had NOTHING but GOOD things to say about it... It is such a great place, they loved their servers and the food was fabulous...and my mom saved room for the viennesse hour which she said was out of this world!

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
If it's any consolation: My cousin got married at Russo's in August 03 and the wedding was amazing. Once you're inside, you don't even realize that you're on a busy road. Because of the rain that day, they took pictures indoors and their album is beautiful.
You shouldn't be unhappy with your hall, so think about it some more and decide what's best for you. If losing a deposit isn't an issue, look into another place.
Good luck

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
I have been to a wedding there a few years ago, and the food is just amazing! and the vienesse (spelling?) hour is simply the best. i think even they call it world famous. you can still look around and change, but do they offer tastings then maybe you can check it out more for yourself?

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
When I read your post I had deja vu!!
First and foremost, you need to think about if the location does bother you (IMO, and this is just me, I personally would rather a hall with nice grounds, but that's me).
Russo's does a great job (going there next Friday), but I am sure you already know that or you wouldn't have booked.
Take one piece of advice from someone with the same concerns as you, I am already married and if I could do it over again, I might have changed my location as well. My wedding was absolutely fantastic, but my situation was different.
I guess what I am trying to say is that you have to be completely comfortable with your hall and have no apprehension going into it, because your doubts will be the one thing that sticks with you the whole time, and you will remember it.
There are a LOT of places out there that are great, maybe you should keep looking....

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
My cousin got married there and the wedding was great! People are still taking about it. There was TONS of food and all of it was very good. I remember screens came down from the ceiling all around the room to play their montage. And the Vienese was great...that's my favorite part.

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
i went to a wedding there in sept and to be honest, i do not like russo's because I dont get any sense of grandeur or fanciness when i pull up
yes it might just be for a few minutes but that 1st impression lasts the entire night

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
just wanted to add....i didnt really like the food either.
the appetizer was cold and i didnt even touch the dinner. and i think 12 menu choices are too many.
the drinks were really good though and they kept the AC just right for people who were dancing and those who were just sitting down talking

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
I feel you-I don't like the way our site looks when you pull up, you don't realize how beautiful it is until you get inside, to the ballroom. However, once you get inside, it is awesome. I've never been to Russo's but I bet it's the same type of thing-once your guests get inside, taste the food, and all the other jazz, they will be impressed.

Re: Help...I don't like my reception hall
You sound like I did at first. My FH loves Russo's. Since we started going out 6 years ago, all I ever heard was that he wanted to get married there, and eventually I went with it b/c Russo's was the one thing he really wanted for our wedding. While at first I was reluctant, I have to say that I have not lost any sleep over our decision b/c their service level is consistently above and beyond anything that I have experienced at any other wedding. The food is amazing and your guests will be so happy.
Please feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

Who goes outside anyway? I'm sure the smokers don't care what surrounds them.

I never heard that many neg things about Russos. You are always going to get people that have a problem w/ everything, but I know serveral ppl that have been to weddings there and they said nothing but good stuff.
If you are so unsure go look around still

It's not really the smokers or anyone else she's worried about, because if that were the case, I would tell her not to worry about it too.
She is the one who has doubts about it, and until you feel that way yourself, it's a very unsettling feeling....
