Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
So I was having a conversation with my MOH last night over dinner. She is on this site but does not post very much. This is partly because she's a teacher so she's not on it constantly like a lot of us at business jobs. The other reason, and I think it's more important, is that she feels people don't answer her posts because she's not one of 'the regulars'.I think this does have some validity to it because I know that I myself am more likely to click on a post of someone I 'know' than someone I don't. However, since we were all Newbies at one point, I think it's really important for us to try and answer everyone's posts equally because that's what makes them feel welcome.
Just wanted to point this out to everyone because I know what a great resource I've found this website to be and I think it's a shame if not everyone gets the same out of it.
To the Newbies, I know that it took me a while to learn the ropes and post 'catchy' topics. The key is all in how you word the subject so that it catches someone's eye that may have the information you are looking for.
to everyone

Re: Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
I totally agree. I felt the same way when I first got here. I thought that there was something wrong with my posts. I used to never get any responses. It's very true that we were all newbies once and that we need to help them just like we were helped when we got here

Very well said...I feel that way sometimes too! It is just so much easier to click on someone that you know, because you feel like you know more about their planning...This is one of the best sites when it comes to information & I think we should help everyone out, newbie or not!

I totally aggree. I felt that way when I first starting posting as well. And even now sometimes not many people answer my posts. But we should also consider that sometimes someone may read your post and just not have an answer for you. So, don't get discouraged. Nobody is ignoring you.

I agree. There's times I feel ignored but I think sometimes it is when the boards are just slow. Here's what I do to make sure I'm doing my part. If I post something that asks a question or for a response, I then go answer at least 5 other posts. This way when I'm asking for help I'm giving it too. Newbie or married already, I really don't pay too much attention to user name. We all need help that's why we're here.

Re: Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
Good topic...I tend to agree a little. But I still have threads that just go away with no responses and I've got a lot of posts under me...so newbies, DONT take it personal at all. The best way to get yourself known better is to post, help others and then they tend to help you back.
Something I have learned is to try and do a search first when I have a question, sometimes posts that are repeatative dont get a lot of answers...
Good luck to all...

Re: Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
I think you made a great point!! I have to admit there are certain times I am self-conscious about posting and I have been on the boards for quite some time now. I am pretty quiet and definitely do not get to post as much as some others (I would love to be able to post more).I do have to say this, though, for every time you may feel ignored there are so many posters out to help and support!! I have gotten some really nice responses and support when I have needed it. Newbies do not get discouraged!!!

Re: Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
I think what Eileen said is totally correct - it's also in the way you word your posts.I come to this board to see if I can offer any help and sometimes I open a post for example -
'Do you know of any'.... then you have to open it and the inside says 'restaurants in Suffolk for a rehearsal dinner'
Now since I have no knowledge of that area I don't respond. If I knew what the topic was all along I wouldn't have even opened it. So I am guilty of the posters having high reads but no responses

Re: Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
I guess i agree and disagree.I agree that we should all help out Newbies, which i try to do.
Do i open the people i know's posts first and respond, yeah probably
but all of us have posts that go by with little responses...
That really doesn't have anything to do with being a newbie.
I think it has more to do with the time people post

Re: Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
Thanks for pointing it out Eileen! our LIW girlscout!
I only click on people I 'know' slightly more often, but I think it has a lot to do with the topic..so like 'Can you tel me about...?' It's better to put something like 'Duet Brides...' in the heading, so people will go to it. Also, I tend not to respond to things I've answered 200 times already. So if you're a newbie and no one answers your post, do a search for previous posts on your topice Hope that helped!

Re: Helping Out The Newbies (PLEASE READ)
I'm a posting 'newbie,' but I've been reading this board for a while.I don't read all the posts, but I read the ones where the title is of interest (not necessarily by who posted the topic).
I've found this board very helpful...even in responses to questions that I may not have specifically asked, but topics that I was curious about anyway.

Bump it back up to the top. I did that yesterday with one of my posts, and I got a few more responses, since people check out the boards at different times of the day.
