HELP.....Need FMIL advice

HELP.....Need FMIL advice

About a month ago (when my FH & FFIL were out of town) my FMIL & I were chatting about wedding stuff. She said to me, and I quote:
'I always wished Michael would've married K. Then we would have the perfect family'.
K. is my FSIL's best friend, has been for years. She's like part of their family, my FH thinks of her like a sister. Even so, how could anyone say that to their son's future wife! What boggles me is his mother & I always had a good relationship.

Does anyone have advice on what I should do or say? Should I NOT say anything, or let my FH talk to her? He knows what she said and was furious, but I keep debating on whether I should have him say something.

Sorry the post is so long. Please let me know what you think.

that is INCREDIBLY RUDE AND meann...i cant not believe your FMIL would say that... i mean so this is in the back of her mind all along 'i wish he wouldve married K' well she should keep her comments to herself!!!! i wouldve told her 'if u have nothing nice to say than dont say anything at all'

i would be irritated and i would tell FH so he knows what his mom is doing, but honestly im not sure if i would say anything to FMIL because HE loves youu at the end of the day and FH is marrying youu not anyone else! so im not sure if i would want to further ruining relations with FMIL...

I couldn't believe it either. I was kinda stunned, and didn't know what to say. When I left I kept replaying it over and over in my mind, and every time I thought about it I got angrier. If my FFIL heard what she said to me he would blow his lid. But, of course, she wouldn't say that if he were actually in town.

And this is coming from a woman who told her favorite nephew that his wife is WHITE TRASH.......

That was NOT very nasty! I would probably leave it to FH to take care of! What did your FH say about this ~ why would she say something like that when she knows you are marrying her son?

That is so not nice... I am sorry!

Re: HELP.....Need FMIL advice

eh, the ones who are shocked by those comments have good FMILs. I wasn't shocked when I read that. Many moms believe it's obvious that their precious sons are WAY TOO GOOD for the woman they are dating / engaged to / married to... They speak so candidly becuase they honestly believe it's obvious to even the fiancee that he is too good for them
I've been the recipient of numerous similar comments.... including 'I have no idea what he sees in her'....

Let it go. You know what she thinks of you, and nothing your FH can say will change that, at least not for the better. It was bitchy, and you now know her nature. What ever you do, don't permit yourself to sink to her level. That would compromise your own integrity!

I'm a big letter writer because I start crying whenever I discuss things with people. Maybe write her a note??

hmmmm...that's pretty f**ked up...

Personally, I wouldn't say anything to her just yet because you have to keep the peace, but I would definitely tell fh...

if she keeps up the comments, then i wouldn't be able to hold back...

what's wrong with people?

OMG I feel like I just read a scipt to a movie. I can;t believe she would say that. I would just sit on it for a while. Right now you are probably very busy and don't need the added stress. Good luck..

WOW I can't even believe she said this. Maybe she just let it slip, but whatever her reasoning, it was a HORRIBLE thing to say. Yes, I would have your FH say something.

That is very rude! Maybe let your FH know about the conversation and have him talk to her about it. I dont think that is a nice thing to say at all!

Re: HELP.....Need FMIL advice

Wow, that's awful. What are you supposed to say to that, 'Too bad you're stuck with me?' Did your FH ever even date this girl? And, you know, if she really loves this girl so much, it puts her in an awful position, because you're never going to be able to look at her the same way again, even if she never thought of your FH as anything but her friend's brother.

All you can do with a person like that is try not to let her get to you. Laugh, and say, 'you are so FUNNY!' as if it's all a big joke. Don't let her see that it's upsetting you. Which is why I don't think you should have your FH say something. She was trying to get a rise out of you, but don't give her the satisfaction. If it escalates, you might have to have your FH say something. But, if you don't play her game, she might give it up. She's going to be your MiL for a long time, you're going to have to deal with her, you might as well learn to do it now, right?

Sorry, though. You're to be commended for not choking the woman.

Re: HELP.....Need FMIL advice

No, I knew my FH never dated this girl, but that was the first thing that went through my mind. What's funny, is this girl is my hair stylist (I saw her today for a trim), and she's a make-up artist. She's doing my makeup for the wedding. She's a wonderful person, and I love her to death, and you're right. It puts her in a terrible position. I'm very secure in my relationship so it hasn't changed the way I look at her, but the comment changed my relationship with my FMIL FOREVER.

What I don't understand, is that his mom & I had a great relationship before this. She was actually saying her comment in a cheerful way, like I should be agreeing with her. I just don't get it.

Re: HELP.....Need FMIL advice

she's doing makeup for your wedding well than, let FMIL comment slide, and yes i applaud you for putting up with her!
what did you FH have to say about the situation??

Re: HELP.....Need FMIL advice

He first apologized profusely for her behavior, and he wanted to choke her. He was appalled.........he wanted to know where the f*** she got off saying something like that to me! But he wasn't suprised either, b/c she's got a problem with alcohol & says stupid things when she's drunk (even though that doesn't excuse her behavior), but she wasn't drunk!

My FH's aunt used to do the same thing to her son's wife & my FMIL said she would NEVER be like that with her DIL. It must run in the family
