yeah colleen i think you do hvae to be specific as to whether you want to donate your eyes and skin. i did choose eyes. why shouldnt someone be walking around with my big beautiful blue eyes
j/k i am not that vain. haha but in all seriousness i believe it is for a good cause. i know i came into this world whole but you know what i am not going to need my heart after it stops beating so why not give someone else the chance to live a longer life!!

I am and I have it on my license!
I do not need my organs...so if someone else can live because of me I am more than willing to allow that. Now if that urban legend is true about the EMT people letting you die wouldn't there be alot of law suits going around...???
I know I would sue if a family member was in a terrible car accident and I was there to witness it and I saw that the EMTs weren't providing their best service! GEEZ to think people even think that 'hey let this person die because we got a heart, lung, live, eyes- now 4 more people can survive!!'
THATS CRAZY!!
in the medical world there are alot of lawsuits...i am still a donor regardless lol. Well its not that they would let you die and not help at all but i think some are afraid that certain doctors wont go that extra mile to come up with an alternative to help save your life.
I never heard about EMT's not doing their best, but of course they would do things to help, the fear is just how much and how would we know if they did enough i guess. But at the same time i dont go with the EMT theory bc an EMT is not able to do everything possible, there are some things they dont know how to do or are not allowed.

i am - but i am also scared about them not giving that 'extra' effort to revive me. . .
when i was younger my parents told me not to bother putting it down bc they would never allow it to happen - they really believe that they 'let' organ donors die

i want to be - but im afraid to because of stories ive heard about them letting you die! i dont know if its true but its enough to scare me into not being one....
Me too!! I want to be one in the worst way because I agree, I don't need them and if they can save a life then I think that is great... I'm just scared they'd pull the plug on me without giving me a fair chance.
That would be against their Hippocratic Oath.
MOST would stand by it, but unfortunately there are unethical people out there...Thats why alot of money is offered on the black market for organs, in order for this to even go on i think some doctors are involved. BUt the thread is about being an organ donor so enough of my conspiracy theories
thats what i heard as well.....big money for organs.....and i also heard that some of the procedures that they can do to save your life can damage your organs or a specific organ and that if you are a donor they don't want to risk damaging an organ if your chance of survival is slim.....so they dont do the procedure.....
i understand that this is all highley unlikely - but the thought of it all is enough to keep me from donating.....

you know what i was thinking--
do the EMT's really look at your license when they get to the scence of an accident?? I mean usually don't they just ask what happened and start working on the person...recesitating them or whatnot??
I guess I could be wrong. But when my cousin was in a really bad motorcyle accident they didnt check his license they went to him right away and started giving him CPR. Thankfully he is alive today but IDK I guess I am confused by this haha

I
Yea and a lot of people who can't get an organ in the US travel to other countries like China and they only have to wait 3 days to get an organ as opposed to the years they would have to wait in the US. It is sick though they showed how people are forced to donate organs and some people from really poor countries donate organs to make money to survive and then they never even pay these people for their organs. It is so sad.
oh yeah once you go outside the US the black market is just crazy, so creepy and twisted.

yeah the whole EMT thing i dont know about, dont think they would not try to save you. Like you said in a life or death situation in the moment then yeah they are gonna get right to it...probably more of a situation when a person is in the hospital and on life support, not that they will just watch you die and all stand around when you get there but after that whole part is over

that is what I was thinking. Like, do they change your odds of surviving once they know you are a donor? if you go in with a 50/50 chance of living and then they see that you are a donor and a week later say, 'it changed to 70/30'? I know that most doctors are ethical, but we can't ignore the fact that not every single person in this world is ethical and moral.

If you are unfortunate and happen to have that unethical doctor who would do anything for money, but illhope i wont come across that doctor lol. Its kind of what tilde said, sometimes doctors just wont give up and will say ok that didnt work now lets try this and if that doesnt work we'll try something else and they wont give up, maybe some are scared that a doctor wont take that extra step. But exactly like you said, not everyone is ethical so you never know i guess.

it's kind of scary, if you think about it. These are the people we trust our lives to. I will give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and I will make it known that I want my organs to go when I pass, but it would be silly to ignore the fact that there are people, in every profession, who don't follow the rules.

like other girls have said on here, i do not have it marked on my license, but my family knows I would like to donate.
It is so funny how these urban myths put such thoughts in our head.....

Def understand what you are saying and agree! But I want to be cremated... And some people may think this is sick.. But I want each of my children to be given a necklace with a little charm on it that has some of my ashes in it... I want them to have me with them at all times.... And then I want the rest of my ashes to be placed in 1 of those walls at the cemetery, and I want mine and FH's ashes to be mixed together in 1 urn... So we will be together forever and always.

no its not sick, its your wishes so do what makes you happy. My dad was watching this thing where they cremate the person and can turn it into a diamond somehow, i think some rich famous person requested this, and my dad said thats what he wants and wants me to make a ring out of him and carry it at all times, uhmmm i guess he also didn't realize how much this costs lol.
