Hey baseball fans...

Hey baseball fans...

Whether you're a Yankee fan, like me, or a Mets fan, I thought I'd share the news...

Yankees obtain Benitez from the Mets...

During Monday's All-Star media day in Chicago, Armando Benitez talked about what it would be like for him to change New York uniforms should he get traded from the Mets to the Yankees.
'At least I'd be able to stay in New York,' Benitez said. 'I wouldn't have to move out of my house.'

Wednesday, the move -- or non-move -- became a reality, as the Yankees acquired the All-Star reliever from the Mets in exchange for right-hander Jason Anderson and a pair of minor-league pitchers. Conference calls are scheduled for later this evening.

Benitez will be used as a right-handed setup man with the Yankees, joining Antonio Osuna and southpaw Chris Hammond as the team's bridge between the starting pitchers and closer Mariano Rivera.

Oh this is such a bad deal unless the Yankees are planning to use Benitez as trade bait ( I hope, I hope). He is terrible under pressure and would never fit into the Yankee organization! They need a real relief pitcher not a choker!!!

Wendy, I couldn't have said it better myself. I am hoping that they are using him as trade bait and will dump him by the end of the month. He is awful and he's not a team player. I'm hoping that they get rid of him and Weaver.

I can't stand him since he beamed tino in the back. He $ucks so bad and can't pitch himself out of a paperbag! He blows all his saves, how is that going to help? He has good stuff, he just doesn't know how to use it!

I think they are using him as trade bait. He isn't worth the money nor the trouble to be in the Yankees. He can't take the heat!! He will be booed out of the stadium if he doesn't play up!

I think he's going to be booed out of the stadium anyway. I don't know any Yankee fan that is willing to look past the Tino incident. I can't imagine ever cheering for him.

I don't think any of us want him. I actually think this might have been one of the worst moves in Yankee history.

That was the BEST move the Mets have made in a while. Thank the Lord that screwup is gone!!! And he couldn't have gotten traded to a better team

I am THE biggest Yankee fan and I am so MAD!!

Stupid stupid stupid..and after what you did to my Tino back then...ohhhhhhhhhhh the hell you will pay Benitez when I am at a game! You will never be a TRUE YANKEE!!!!!!!!!! NEVER!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hey baseball fans...

I've also held a grudge against Benitez since he beaned Tino about 5 years ago when he was with Baltimore. I thought this was very masochistic of Steinbrenner to trade for a pitcher that is known for screwing up! Does that mean that we won't be seeing much of Mariono Rivera anymore?

I'm mad about Bernitz though!!! I liked him!

Re: Hey baseball fans...

Can any of the Yankee fans on this board explain something to me?

Why is it that you are all so furious with Benitez still, over the Tino thing (and there are many other reasons not to like Benitez)....but the Clemens/Piazza incident is brushed over completely? When that was about 100x worse?

Not trying to start baseball drama, just would like an answer to this amazing double standard I encounter with most Yankee fans, including my boss (who went out and bought a Met cap yesterday, in anticipation of this trade....not kidding).

And, Benitez will be a middle man for you guys, not a closer. God help you if he's a closer. I have a good heart doctor I can recommend if you'd like.

Re: Hey baseball fans...

julybaby - he will not be closing games for the Yankees - he will be a sright handed setup man for Riveria. They always said he would be an amazing setup person because he can't handle the pressures of closing games. My DH thinks it is a good move for the Yankess because that is the Yankess weakness right now - middle relief. He will only be around for a year because he is a free agent at the end of the year. (DH is a big Yankee fan too).

As a Mets fan, he did make games hard to watch but he was a better than average reliever if you compare stats. I hope we find someone good for next year. So who is going to close for us - gold ole Johnny Franco?? now that will be hard to watch! But maybe he can get enough saves to get him closer to the record!

I just don't think Benitez fits the Yankee's image so I was surprised that Stienbrenner would want him. When they are in the playoffs and he goes to play cards or something! Or will he fight with the pretty boy - Jeter.

I told DH, I can't wait for the first BoSox series and see how he handles that pressure! LOL

ohmigod yay! i've been asking myself for several years why the mets haven't gotten rid of this guy. he's terrible and he ruins every game that's close. i'm so happy to see him gone!

HAHA!!! Better in the Bronx than in Queens!!!
Seriously though...even though he's not able to contain his emotions in the big games, he's a very reliable pitcher and has the number to prove it!
I loved him in 2000 during the regular season....
The Yankees always have a way of taking the sloppy left overs from teams and making them shine.
However, as a METS fan...better the Yankees deal with his nonsense than the Mets!!!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who feels that this is NOT in the best interest of the Yankees. Yikes, I hope you girls are right and they dump him fast. I LOVED Tino and am still going through withdrawal
