Whether you're a Yankee fan, like me, or a Mets fan, I thought I'd share the news...
Yankees obtain Benitez from the Mets...
During Monday's All-Star media day in Chicago, Armando Benitez talked about what it would be like for him to change New York uniforms should he get traded from the Mets to the Yankees. 'At least I'd be able to stay in New York,' Benitez said. 'I wouldn't have to move out of my house.'
Wednesday, the move -- or non-move -- became a reality, as the Yankees acquired the All-Star reliever from the Mets in exchange for right-hander Jason Anderson and a pair of minor-league pitchers. Conference calls are scheduled for later this evening.
Benitez will be used as a right-handed setup man with the Yankees, joining Antonio Osuna and southpaw Chris Hammond as the team's bridge between the starting pitchers and closer Mariano Rivera.

Re: Hey baseball fans...
Yippeeee!!!! I love this thread!! As a maniacal baseball and Yankee fan I have to say I love the fact that we have a sports thread going with such knowledgeable comments!!! It's great to see women talking about this. I, for one, have been a sports fanatic for a long time (DH isn't..we have a role reversal here) and have often known more than many guys that I know, especially in baseball. They hate that!!!!
My concern about Benitez has nothing to do with his throwing the ball at anyone. Hey, high and inside has been a part of baseball for as long as they have been playing the game. I don't think any pitcher goes out there and says 'Hummm. Let me see who I want to hit in the head today!!!' Bob Gibson one of the greatest pitchers who ever lived was a great believer in the brushback pitch and his career speaks for itself. The pitcher's job is to make the hitter fear him so he swings at bad pitches and getting them to move back off the plate does just that. But I digress.
My concern with Benitez is that he is not a good pressure pitcher. I know he was not brought in to close (Heaven forbid), but to act as a set up man for Rivera. However there is still pressure. He has never dealt well with that at all. Long before he was with the Mets he could not handle the big games. I don't think he is the best fit for the team. I do however think that Joe Torre has developed into a very good manager and he seems to have the ability to take many marginal players and draw out their best performances. So perhaps this will work out. I have my doubts, but time will tell!!!
I do think that the Mets are in need of an overhaul and it appears that they have realized it. Art Howe seems to be the kind of manager who can work with and develop youngers players into a good solid team, so I do believe there is hope for all you Mets fams. He did wonders with Oakland with a team that had a very low payroll, so I think good things are coming for you.
GOOOOOOOO YANKS!!!!!!!!

Mets Fans
A 1st grade teacher in Queens, NY explains to her class that she's a Mets fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they're Mets fans as well. Everyone in the class raised their hand except for a little girl named Janie.
The teacher looks at the girl and says 'Janie, why didn't you raise your hand?'
Because I'm not a Mets fan,' she replied.
The teacher, surprised, asked, 'well, if you're not a Mets fan, then who are you a fan of?'
'I am a Yankees fan, and proud of it.' Janie replied.
The teacher couldn't believe it. 'Janie, why are you a Yankees fan?'
'Because my mommy and daddy are Yankees fans, so I am a Yankees fan, too!
Well,' said the teacher in a condescending tone, 'That's no reason for you to be a Yankees fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom were a moron and your dad were a moron, what would you be then?
Then, Janie smiled, We'd be 'METS' fans.

Re: Hey baseball fans...
This is old, but pretty funny.
10 RULES FOR BEING A YANKEE FAN
1. It's important to point out past post-season success as often as possible. However, if anyone points out anything in the past that doesn't reflect positively on the Yankees, then argue that it happened in the past and doesn't matter now. For example, it is okay to point out that the Yankees beat the Mariners in the 2000 ALCS. However, if anyone points out that the Mariners beat the Yankees in the 1995 ALDs, then argue that it happened in the past and doesn't matter. 2. Nothing in the regular season matters, unless it's favorable to the Yankees. For example, Roger Clemens is 16-1 this year, and has dominated. However, if anyone points out that the Mariners have beaten Clemens twice this year, respond by saying, 'Regular Season doesn't mean crap'. Regular Season wins and losses are especially irrelevant, unless you are the 1998 Yankees.
3. Statistics are for losers. Whenever someone posts a statistic that you find confusing, quickly point out that the Yankees have won 4 out of the last 5 World Series.
4. If anyone accuses the Yankees of 'buying' their championships, argue that Jeter, B Williams, Pettitte, Soriano, Rivera, and Posada are all home-grown talent. Then, hope that nobody notices that this represents only 6 out of 25 players, and hope they don't bring up Clemens, Mussina, Hitchcock, Witasik, Wohlers, Stanton, Martinez, Sojo, Knoblauch, O'Neill, Brosius, Justice, Lilly and more. Also hope they don't mention the fact that Gerald Williams was recently acquired but never plays, much like Jose Canseco last year.
5. Whenever you argue with a Red Sox fan, always bring up 1918. This will infuriate them and while they type a response, you can point out that the Yankees have won 4 out of the last 5 championships. See Rule #1
6. Statistics and records are never as important as name recognition. Statistics should always be dismissed unless they are favorable to the Yankees. For example, Clemens is 16-1. That's a good statistic. Mussina is 12-10, but that doesn't matter because . Well-known names are always better than any statistic. If anyone argues with that, see Rule #2.
7. Defend Derek Jeter and Roger Clemens at all costs. Resort to name calling and threats of violence if necessary.
8. All other fans of all other teams are bandwagon fans. Nobody has a more loyal, more dedicated following than the Yankees. If a team is hot, or is playing well, call that team's fans bandwagoners. Then point out how many championships the Yankees have won. See Rule #1.
9. The Yankees are the Defending World Champions until baseball adopts a policy forbidding them to play in the post-season. Such a policy will never exist, because George Steinbrenner vehemently opposes anything that doesn't directly contribute to the success of the Yankees, so therefore, the Yankees will forever be the Defending World Champions. If another teams wins the championship, then it was because of . Refer to Rule #1.
10. The following traits should be avoided at all times: logic, humility, reason, and class. You are the World Champions. You should act like it and point it out at all times. See Rule #1. -Aquired from an anonymous Mariners fan

Re: Hey baseball fans...
This is a great thread!! Me and DH are big Mets fans. Im happy that Benitz is no longer on the Mets. He always made you sweat it out and alot of times he blew saves. As far as the Piazza/Clemens incident, if I remember correctly but Torre wound up switching the pitching lineup around just so Roger wouldnt pitch at Shea and they sent in Pettite who wasnt fully healed and he wound up being taken out of the game in like the 3rd inning because his arm was bothering him.

Re: Hey baseball fans...
You see??? Yankee fans don't need to send a list of rules to those who are fans of other teams. Since we know we root for the best team in baseball (see Rule #1) we just rise above it all!!!
Misty all those jokes are great. Where did you get them from?
