Hey baseball fans...

Whether you're a Yankee fan, like me, or a Mets fan, I thought I'd share the news...

Yankees obtain Benitez from the Mets...

During Monday's All-Star media day in Chicago, Armando Benitez talked about what it would be like for him to change New York uniforms should he get traded from the Mets to the Yankees.
'At least I'd be able to stay in New York,' Benitez said. 'I wouldn't have to move out of my house.'

Wednesday, the move -- or non-move -- became a reality, as the Yankees acquired the All-Star reliever from the Mets in exchange for right-hander Jason Anderson and a pair of minor-league pitchers. Conference calls are scheduled for later this evening.

Benitez will be used as a right-handed setup man with the Yankees, joining Antonio Osuna and southpaw Chris Hammond as the team's bridge between the starting pitchers and closer Mariano Rivera.

NEW YORK --The New York Mets announced today that they are going to court to get an additional inning added to the end of Game 5 of the World Series. The batting, pitching, and bench coaches for the Mets held a press conference earlier today. They were joined by members of the Major League Players Union.

'We meant to hit those pitches from the Yankee pitchers,' said the Mets batting coach. 'We were confused by the irregularities of the pitches we received and believe we have been denied our right to hit.'

One claim specifically noted that a small percentage of the Mets battershad intended to swing at fast balls, but actually swung at curve balls. It was clear that these batters never intended to swing at curve balls, though a much higher percentage were not confused by the pitches.

Reporters at the press conference pointed out that the Mets had extensively reviewed film of the Yankees pitchers prior to the World Series and had in fact faced the Yankees in inter-league play earlier in the year.

'The fact remains that some of the pitches confused us and denied us of our right to hit,' said the Mets batting coach. 'The World Series is not over yet and the Yankees are celebrating prematurely.'

Major League Baseball has reviewed the telecast of all the World Series games and recounted the balls and strikes called by the umpires of each game. 'While some of the strikes called against the Mets were, in fact, balls, there were not enough of them to change the outcome of the World Series,' the commissioner said.

Another portion of the Mets legal claim stated that, based on on-base percentage, the Mets had actually won the World Series, regardless of the final scores of the games. 'It's clear that we were slightly on-base more often than the Yankees,' said a Mets spokesman. 'The World Series crown is rightly ours.'

The manager of the Mets has remained in relative seclusion, engaging in some light jogging for exercise. He has stated that he believes 'we need to let the process run its course without a rush to judgment.'

Leelee writes: One could say the same about the Yankees. What happened to them over the past few seasons? They were eliminated last year from the post-season right away.

Yes, the Yankee did make it to the post-season. What happened to the Mets? I read in the NY Post today that the Mets know that they are out of the wild-card race. It's the middle of the season and they are already out?!

You need to be in a certain position by the All-Star break...them being in last place, well, it would take a Miracle for them to make the WC. *sigh* I will always root for the METS, no matter how much they s*ck at times.

Even though I am a huge Yankee fan, those rules about being a Yankee fan are hysterical and honestly true.

Look, any true fan will defend their team until they are blue in the face. Why can't Yankee fans forget the Tino thing and yet we tell Mets fans to get over the Piazza thing? For the same reason that you tell us to get over the Tino thing and you can't get over the Piazza thing. Because when someone on your team gets hit, you remember it.

I don't hold grudges for players being hit. It's part of the game. I think a lot of fans remember the Tino incident for a couple of reasons.
-The year it happened Baltimore was considered an arch rival.
-Benetiz threw right at Tino, no questions asked in this. He did it on purpose. He hit Tino right after Bernie hit a homerun. That's just a no-no in baseball.
-The hit resulted in a bench clearing brawl that left a couple of players suspended.
-IMO Tino's swing has never been the same since that hit.

It's no secret the Mets are out of the wild card race. It's a transitional year...
If you look at the current roster, you'll hardly know ANYONE on the team. They're all rookies. They made moves that didn't pan out....it's fine. Like I keep saying, every team goes through periods of this sort of thing. It doesn't make me any less enthralled to be a fan of the team. You take the good along with the bad.
I don't feel it's fair to compare the Yankees and Mets anyway..they are 2 different leagues, 2 totally different games.
My point was, just because the Yankees have so many world championships under their belt, doesn't make them an automatic guarantee to win every year. Just as because the Mets won the NLCS in 2000 doesn't give them the guarantee that they would have won it in 2001, 2002, etc.

Re: Hey baseball fans...

I got one too my DH sent this to me

Little Johnny was in his 1st grade class when the teacher asked the children
what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came
up--fireman,doctor, teacher, investment banker, salesman, etc. Johnny was being
uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father.

'My father's an exotic dancer in a gay club and takes off all his clothes in
front of other men.
The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other
children to work and took Little Johnny aside to ask him,'Is that really true
about your father?'

'No,' said Johnny,'He plays for the New York Mets, but I was too embarrassed
to say so.'
