HEY NEW Preggos...need advice on clothes (BTDT moms too...)
I'm normally a size 10, and the pants are always too long....now I know if I just go up to a 12, the pants are going to be HUGE....huge crotch, too long, etc......SOME of my pants are getting tight on me....what are the newly PG ladies doing for clothes?

I started buying Maternity at 8 weeks I just didn't buy the pooch kind. It has been great. Yes a lot of it was too big on me in the beginning but some of it has adjustable waistbands, elastic or drawstrings inside so you can look for those. It will give you room for your tummy to go. My friend was doing the rubber band trick with her pants up until 12 weeks.

What I did was just go and buy pants with the small panel or the elastic in the back and then you are comfy and the panel ones grow with you for pretty much the whole pregnancy. I didn't want to buy a size bigger and look lost in my clothes.

Old Navy's Maternity Khaki's in my normal size are awesome. They have the elastic belt I started them at 9 weeks and purchased jeans two sizes bigger then normal in a short length and I wear them as my jeans.Old Navy's shipping is 5 bucks right now. So I also purchased some shorts with the pocket for my big belly to wear when towards the end since I'm in the south. They were 4 bucks on sale!

Re: HEY NEW Preggos...need advice on clothes (BTDT moms too...)
I think it really depends on how you are growing and everyone grows differently. I can tell you by week 9 most of my pants/skirts did not fit. I wear mostly fitted and tailored clothes (suits to work) so I was screwed and had to go shopping. But I grew in the hips and thighs first. I just bought clothes up a size or two and some and pretty much wore them from week 9-10 and am wearing some still at week 26 (at least the stuff that was low rise). When I tried on maternity at that early state - they fell right off of me...even now a lot of maternity pants don't stay up right - I am wearing the maternity dress pants (the low rise ones) with a belt I borrowed from DH - lol

Another plus for Old Navy is you can buy in different lengths. Since I am short (5'3) pants are always long on me. I love the clothes I have bought from Old Navy. Plus the clothes are relatively inexpensive, I didn't want to spend a fortune on maternity clothes.ETA - Motherhood has some nice stuff too and it isn't expensive either.

I had the most luck for clothes at Old Navy and Target. I wore the panel pants up until the last couple of months, and then I wore whatever I could find that was comfortable.

Re: HEY NEW Preggos...need advice on clothes (BTDT moms too...)
I bought regular pants in sizes one or two bigger than my regular. The best are the low rise, and VERY IMPORTANT - made of cotton with 2-5% spandex. They are so comfortable and fit great. I was even able to get one or two pair in my regular size and they were comfortable because of the spandex. The GAP has a bunch on clearance now for $10 - I got three pair in different colors. I also found some at Kohl's on their clearance rack - I got three pair of pants for $23. I don't want to spend a lot because I'm not sure how long I can wear them, but I figure after the baby is born I will need clothes a little bigger, at least for a while, so these will be good. I've been wearing them for about four to six weeks already.

The Liz Lange pants at Target are called 'transition' and they are great for early days. They have the elastic with buttons on the inside and they grow with you. They are low rise too, and they ran a little short for me (I am 5'9' and like my pants almost touching the floor) so they should fit an average size person.

I have the same problem with my jeans but I thought I was too early (only 5 weeks) to buy maternity right now

When you buy maternity do you buy your normal non-preggo size or are things just S/M/L?

Re: HEY NEW Preggos...need advice on clothes (BTDT moms too...)
Pants are the hardest thing for me, but for opposite reason... They are always too short!I have to be in maternity clothes now, my bellly has gotten pretty big, but what I have been doing is buying regular pants in bigger sizes. They just dont seem to have long maternity pants.
The other thing I am going to do is start wearing more skirts. This way length wont matter, and I've seen lots of nice maternity skirts.

Re: HEY NEW Preggos...need advice on clothes (BTDT moms too...)
I've bought some Old Navy maternity pants. I ordered them in my pre-pregnancy size. The only thing is I can't hold them up, even now at 29 weeks. They slide right off!The Liz Lange pants from Target fit me a lot better.
