Hi, welcome and congratulations! Let me just say, if you don't know where to start, this site will be such a big help to you, i was definitely clueless a few months ago and now i feel like i actually know stuff!
If you're trying to figure out where to have it (and it's going to be on li), check out the vendors --> reception halls part of this site...it lists TONS of great places to have your wedding. When i started out, i looked through them to get an idea of what places appealed to me that i thought FH would also like, then made a list and went from there...figuring out your style & what type of places you like (i.e. on the water, has gardens, has a ritzy feel) are key....then you can start cutting out who's out of your price range (budgeting is also key)
The fun is just beginning

Re: hi
believe me, the addiction will get worse lol.
The good thing about this site is we are all going through the same thing, finding the perfect hall and vendors, and we help each other out with it :)

Re: hi
I found this site very helpful. It breaks it down to Nassau and Suffolk RHs and also gives you basica ideas on pricing. Good luck and welcome!
I would say make your guest list with your FH and then see exactly how many people your having. We though we would have max 120 but we ended up with 156! When you know how many people your having, your budget and your time of year then start looking. Each place you see and like you can us what we thought of it and also seek out former brides of that reception hall.
We saw 16 halls before we chose, so be ready to shop!

Re: hi
we actually have our mock guest list made up but its in the works still, we had to figure out the must invites for the engagement party next month, and we have a rough idea how much we can spend on the reception but i have to say that calling up places and getting quotes makes me realize this is all really super expensive! does money really not grow on trees? haha

Re: hi
wow jessica 16 halls? thats a whole lot... but thanks for that little bit of info, it will prepare us for the 'hunt' :)
fh and i visited the harbor club last weekend to scout it out and i have to say i wasn't too impressed... granted it was set up for a bar mitzvah but i think we both like some place more spacious, grounds wise...we have an appt to check out swan club and fox hollow...
we're looking at about 200 guests
what are your opinions? or is there another thread i can look at for brides who are planning and their opinions on rhs?

Re: hi
You can search the chat rooms for a specific RH and see what people have to say. I looked at a few places...are you considering nassau or suffolk or both?

Mine is bad too. I thought the list would 100, but it was 298. I forgot some, so I am still cutting and adding people. FH was 75 the rest was me. To this day his list hasn't change.

Re: hi
ideally nassau, but if we have to go far east thats ok, our guests will have a reason to take a long weekend for my sunday wedding haha
