Re: HM in Italy

We are going there for our honeymoon. We are staying in the following towns - Portofino (Italian Riviera), Fiesole (Tuscany), Positano/Ravello (Amalfi Coast). We have both already seen the 'major cities' so we want to go the more relaxing route and tour some wineries, lay in the sun, stroll in the piazza and eat, eat, and eat!!!

Definitely Venice....and I have heard that you should actually stay in the city itself, because it makes it more enjoyable.....

I think we've definitely decided against a European HM .....oh well, maybe someday....

i don't know where to start

We're doing Italy too and I think we will be going to Rome, Naples and somewhere on the Amalfi Coast.

Still need to do more planning.

It can be overwhelming, because there's so much to do and see. You might want to get an idea of an itinerary by looking up tour operators who have packages in Italy. (I'm sorry, I can't think of the names of some of the big ones.) Obviously, you don't have to join the tour, but they should give you a good idea of the 'must-see' places.

I went to Italy in college and hit all the big cities, but I had the most fun when we went off the beaten track. The lifestyle in the small towns is sooo relaxed and pleasant - be prepared to spend a lot of time sipping wine and eating at outdoor cafes!

Re: HM in Italy

We didn't do Italy for our honeymoon but went right before our wedding. We went to Milan, Florence and Venice. I definitely think Venice was the most romantic, honeymoon type city but Florence was beautiful too and I would not miss it. I think Milan is skippable- more fashion and shopping there- but I would go to Rome too. I LOVED Italy- wherever you go, you'll have a great time. We stayed in beautiful hotels in Italy so if you want more info, FM me!

Re: HM in Italy

I think great spots for first timers are Florence and Venice. Venice is very unique so it is nice to see it and Florence is great for shopping and culture and I think it is just beautiful there. You can take side trips to the country side too!

Rome is a very old city. There is alot of history there, but if you are not into the sightseeing and looking at all that is reminds me of a 'small' New York. JMO. But if that is was interested you then go for it. It is fascinating to walk around and then all of a sudden - BOOM - coliseum.

I also think the Amalfi Coast is beautiful. You can sightsee and still relax by the water. My friend went on her honeymoon to this past May and did Rome, Florence and Positano and she loved it.

How long are you going for maybe that can help?

We honemooned in Italy for two weeks in Sept. We flew into Milan and took a train to Verona for the night, which was beautiful. Then we went to Vernice, Florence, Rome, and Capri and the Amalfi coast. It was the most amazing experience of our lives! FM if you have any specific questions or need hotel recs.

I have to reccommend Cinque Terre because I thought it was the most beutiful place in Italy. It is 5 little towns on the Mediterranean that you can hike between - gorgeous and very romantic. I would also reccommend Sienna, a beautiful city also. Have fun!!

Re: HM in Italy

For your first time in italy i agree florence and venice would be great choices.... my advice is get a good balance of sightseeing and rest. its very easy to try to do 'too much' and you don't want to spend half your honeymoon running to the next city.
