Hm, the 'how close are you' thread got me thinking!

Original post by What-Now

I know it a most common thing to have DH in the delivery room you and sometimes the whole thing is even taped, but I am totally NOT letting my DH see the process 'in the whole glory!' I know it's a natural thing, I know that we made the baby together and therefore he should participate, but I there are some things that I WOULD NOT like him to see! I want him to come into the room for a while and hold my hand, but there is no way I am letting him 'admire the view'! Or anyone else for that matter! It's just for me and the doctor to 'enjoy'!

So, when it's time for you to push the baby out, will you insist that your DH is there with you able to see absolutely everything or are you going to set some boundaries?

I am with Liz. No one is allowed below the sheet but the doctor. NO ONE

I am completely shocked at how many of you don't want your husbands with you during the birth of your baby, the baby that he helped bring into this world. It doesn't seem fair that he won't be there to witness it.

Just wondering if your husbands agree with you on this one.

My DH will absolutely be with me in the delivery room and he can stand wherever he wants!!

I agree with having your husband be with you but standing wherever he wants to stand...imo...no way. As others have said...that is for the doc and the doc only! I dont need him down there..he can see his baby be born from right where my head is thank you!

I'm guessing by the time the baby is born, my DH would have experienced all of the symptoms, good and bad along the way (when it's our turn of course that is), so there won't be anything left to hide so to speak
I'm not sure about others though.....mainly my mom. In a way I would want her to be there, because I'm guessing I will need her. But on the other hand it would be very special for just me and my DH to share the moment together. I guess I'll have to wait and see how we feel then....hopefully some time next year

I'm surprised too that so many don't want the DH's there! I would bet when the time comes some may change their minds though.

My FH is queasy (sp?) so I know he won't be looking down there. I actuallydon't want him to be looking. I want him there with me, but like Suzanne said, I want him to stay by my head.

I've never even considered not having DH in the room and watching the whole thing! What an amazing thing for him to watch his child enter the world and take his/her first breath!

IMO he's seen my 'fancy' from every perspective so why not this one??

I could even imagine taking it a step further and letting mom/dad watch - its such a natural thing - -and this is coming from someone who is very self-conscious about my body - I don't even let my mother or girlfriends see me without clothes.

I held one of my sister's legs when she gave birth to her daughter. I was right down there with a full view of everything. Believe it or not, it's not really a 'ripped bloody mess.' There's more blood after the baby is out than during the birth itself. The creepy thing was that the baby comes out looking bluish purple. I thought something was terribly wrong with her!! But that's just the way they look at first. I even saw the delivery of the placenta (from a side view). UGH! That thing looked like a huge clot. Hope that's not too much info!

Anyway, even seeing the birth of my niece, I'm so very hesitant to have my DH see the whole thing. And I'm still super afraid of pregnancy and childbirth. I'm actually considering a voluntary C-section instead. Won't be covered by insurance, though....

I would want my FH to be there with me the whole way. If, when the baby is crowning, he wanted to see, or be closer, that would be fine with me too. I would be happy that he wanted to be a part of the experience.

I think I might also want my mom to be there to hold my hand.

I want him to be there by my side and to be right there when the baby is born. I don't know if he really needs to be below the sheet seeing the baby coming out. But if it means something to him, than it's fine with me.
