hmm... so apparently we wound up with 2 extra place settings of china
We counted the place settings of china we recieved today. We reigstered for 12 and wound up with 14. Clearly someone didn't have theirs taken off the registry.
It's not a big deal. It's also not that I don't doubt it's a nice idea to have extra, but I'd rather use that to purchase other parts of our china we didn't receive (the accent plates, the rest of our soup bowls, etc.)
Right now, though, all my china is on sale (at Macys, where we registered), and I'd like to make some big china purchases this weekend. If I return the place settings now, what price will I get? Will I get the full price store credit or only the sale? It's on my registry, but it's not like I have a receipt or anything.
Anyone know?

Was your registry at Fortunoff? My friends shower is coming up and only 2 things have been taken off her registry even though we know much more has been bought. A friend of ours called up and they said, the best they can do, is to have each person call up and verify their purchases with the individual stores, so they can be taken off the online registry.

you should get the price the person who bought them paid. i returned something form Macys it was on sale but I got what the person paid for. Just make sure the person at the register understands that you are returning a gift that was bought off your registry.. just be clear with them on that...

I'm registered at Macys.
The registry states that all of our place settings are gone. We registered for 12, we got 14.
The ONLY reason that is relevant is to explain why I want to return two place settings.
My question is -- since the china is now on sale what price will I get on the return? Will I get the full price (which several people paid, I'm sure), or will we only get the sale price? Obviously we don't have the receipts, but they were purchased off our registry.

But 12 place settings were purchased. There's no way to know which two of those 12 we are returning. Obviously some people paid more than others with the sales and everything -- so how do we know which price they will give us? The lowest 2? The highest 2?

true.. not really sure what will happen.. but maybe you'll get a good sales person and they'll give you the better price.. ;) or talk them into giving you the higher one!

i think it goes by your registry they will ring it and ring your registry because your registry acts as the reciept...so it should be what price they are when you registered for them.....if that makes sense...

I don't think it matters really whose you return as long as you get the best price back. If someone close to you, say a close aunt or your best friend) gave you a setting, I would just use them as the one you're returning. You can tell that person that you aren't really returning theirs, you just felt more comfortable asking them for the info and that you are in spirit returning someone elses. I would totally do that for a friend if she asked me

I think you get the not-sale price but you get it as a gift card at Macys. I feel like that's what they told me when I registered. I could be remembering it wrong !

Without a recipt you'll get store credit for whatever price they're going for right now. If they're on sale - you'll get the sale price.

I would think that if it's coming off of your registry - they would want to give you the most back possible for you to purchase more from them with the credit you get back...

I think Evelyn is right. Did any of the 14 include a gift receipt? If not, I might wait until the items go back to full price to return.
The same thing happened to us (16 instead of 14), but because we registered for half at BBB and half at Macy's, we returned at BBB because their policy is so easy and they don't really go on sale so we got full price back.
