If you are inviting a couple who is engaged but not married, and are using inner envelopes, do you just put one person on the outer envelope and then both names on the inner? or both on the outer and less formal names on the inner?
assume they live together at the address the invite is being sent to.
we didnt have an inner envelope so we didnt deal with this stuff, but i'm curious how this works
Edit: I googled and one website says this (which is what i expected):
Unmarried couples who live together - alphabetical by last name
Outer: Miss (or Ms.) Rose Abbott Mr. Timothy Cochran
Inner: Miss (or Ms.) Abbott Mr. Cochran
but i'm curious to hear what you all say because of an invite we just received that had me going

Re: question about guest name on invite envelope...
For my friends that are engaged and live together we are planning on putting both names on the outside and then both on the inner as well. This only applies to a few couples for us.
Those that are just guest -- outer will have the name of the person we are sending it to, inner will say name and guest.

Re: HMMM.... kind of surprised about something
For all unmarried couples, I did the same thing, regardless of whether they were living together or not, mailed to the address of the person we were closer with.
Outer: Mr. John Smith Ms. Jane Doe
Inner: Mr. Smith and Ms. Doe
The name of whoever we were closer with came first

Re: HMMM.... kind of surprised about something
Outer said 'Mr. Scott _____' (his name only!)
inside said 'Scott and Jen'
I mean, these are friends we have known for 6 years, the guy is in our bridal party, FH is in theirs, but all 4 of us are very good friends. They are getting married 2 weeks before us.
We didnt have inner envelopes and addressed theirs 'Mr. Josh _____ and Ms. Megan _____'
I would have thought they would put my name on the outside too but wasnt sure if i was just confused about the ettiquette

Re: HMMM.... kind of surprised about something
All of my engaged friends are currently living together so the outer I did put both of their names (I didnt do it alphabetically though, I did the name of my friend on top). On the inner envelopes I put, 'Jen & Shane' or whatever. HTH!

Is it possible that she didn't do them and that the person who did just didn't know and they may not know either?

Re: HMMM.... kind of surprised about something
I did the outside envelopes Like this
Ms. Smith and Mr, Brown
The inner envelopes I did more personal and wrote their first names only,
Brian and Marie

Re: HMMM.... kind of surprised about something
For that situation, we did both names on outer and inner, in alpha order. I wanted the inner to read Ms. Jane Doe Mr. Joseph Smith
but the caligraphy messed it up and put the names on separte inner envelopes. Now I am waiting to hear back from him. I wonder if they were suppose to be on one line Ms. Jane Doe and Mr. Joseph Smith for the innner.
With guest, or if they lived separate, then I would have done it with one name on outside.

im sure they wouldnt have done it like that unless they thought that was proper ettiquette, but they know both of us for years, we both live at that address, and my name should be on the envelope too!
al least it didnt say 'and guest'

i think it does make it more personal, although last names is a little more formal on inner envelope. i was just surprised they only put his name on the outer, considering they are friends of both of us, and we live together!

Yeah I would've been a little put off by this also! I made it a POINT to find out significant other's last names if I didn't know them so that I could put both names on the outer envelopes! Sorry, hun!
