HM/Travel Question

So, we booked our HM for Excellence Riviera Maya...we were thrilled...our TA suggested booking our own flights. Well, they're double the rough estimate we were given...I'm not thrilled and I don't want to spend this much for one week of my life...SO...we have travel insurance and can cancel for any reason...

BUT....could we book Excellence Punta Cana (less $$ and WAY cheaper flights)? I'm waiting for my TAs response but I'm curious....if you have travel insurance, can you use your deposit from one place towards another? and is travel insurance transferrable or would we have to buy the insurance again?

I don't know how to answer your question, but we booked our HM at Excellece Riviera also. We were going to go through a TA, but after getting her quote thend doing more shopping online, we found the same package our TA gave us online for about $750 cheaper. The only difference is that instead of having direct flights, we have one stopover each way. However, we didn't think this was a big deal, and we get there earlier in the day, and leave later in the evening. I'd still say do the Riviera Maya, there's just so much more to do outside of the resort than in Punta Cana, JMO.

I get VERY sick when I fly. I have low blood pressure and the up and the down kill me. I want to avoid doing that twice. And the flights with stops are almost the same now. We were told about $300 pp/round trip...it's now well over $1200 for the two of us. I just don't want to spend that on a flight....sadly, we're a few weeks after you but it's spring break...and we're flying to cancun...

Wish I knew. I don't usually use TA since you can usually find better prices on your own.

Did you look at all the internet sites, Kayak etc?

We booked through aavacations.com. I've booked nearly all my vacations through them because they do give the best price. We did have the choice of booking the same flights the TA gave us, and it still would have been about $200 cheaper. I wonder if the flights are so much more because you're going during spring break?

So far the best I saw was around $800 total but I don't think it was non-stop both ways....only one....I mean nonstop coming, one stop going.

try AA...on their website u can do a 24hr hold so if u find it cheaper 2day u can still get it.

i believe the mexicana flights are some of the aa flights right??

and now i am finding the hotel and air packages cheaper than our TA got us....i'm regretting booking so much and i don't know what to do....

I am a TA and I can tell you that your deposit can 100% be moved to anything you want it to go towards AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT WITHIN PENALTY YET. This goes for vacation packages, cruises or tours. From what it sounds like you booked, it shouldn't be a problem.

ETA: Why would your TA tell you to book your own flights? That makes no sense to me.

ETA again: It doesn't matter if you have insurance or not to switch your vacation.

oh no!!!!! thats def one minus of working at a school...its costs a rediculous amount of money to go away anywhere during breaks! I wish i could answer your questions but i have no clue...but good luck finding a good price...i know if anyone can find a good deal- its u!!!
