Hollow to Hem??

How does this affect:

dress price - if you are shorter and they have to make special, is it more expensive than the 'sticker cost'?

alterations pricing - should be cheaper if just doing bustle & little things right?

Any other tips on buying a dress that needs this done?

Hollow to Hem??

This is how my bridal salon did this:

Hollow to hem basically means you are PRE-PAYING for the hem. The dress will be made special to your height plus however many inches of you shoes. Yes it is extra in a sense that you are paying for the hem. They usually do hollow to hem for dresses that are hard to hem later b/c of details on the skirt.

if you do pre-pay for hollow to hem than you need to make sure that they do NOT charge you extra if additional work is needed on the hem! that is something they have to make very cleat to you otherwise you will be paying double.

once your dress is in - the price for bustle and other little things is set by the shop but they CANNOT and SHOULD NOT charge you for hem if you are doing hollow to hem.

hth!

Re: Hollow to Hem??

I agree with the PP. My dress was a hollow-to-hem because the bottom of the dress is scalloped lace and CANT be hemmed. The designer just makes the dress in your specific length. I'm also having my dress changed to a corset back with the designer so the ONLY alterations I should need will be the bustle.. Im keeping my fingers crossed for that.
