So, me and FI made our guest list this week. 288 people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'm going to faint....i don't even know how/where to begin trying to cut people! Anyone else with the same problem??? (please say yes!)

I feel your pain. FH family is GINORMOUS plus everyone is invited with a date. We cut ours down to 260.

Our guest list was 489 and that was with a major cut! We ended up with 270 attending the wedding

We started out with the same number, 288. Got very serious, sat down and did some major cuts. We are now down to 275 and have come up with 10 more we forgot to add. Our target number is 200!! You are not alone.

oy, thats tough...
of the 288, how many are 2nd, 3rd or even 4th cousins? have you seen them in the past year? if not, i would cut them.
are you inviting co-workers? - if they are not married, in a serious relationship, only invite them as a single - the and guests, add up.

Ha I wish I had that problem!!! We have to ADD people!! (although now at least I have some people I would like to add!!)
From what people have said on this board before, there are a few ways to cut down your list.
1. No guests of single people unless they're in a serious relationship. 2. If you haven't met them, they don't need to be there. 3. Not inviting the entire office. Hell, we're not inviting any of our co-workers. Because it's not fair to invite some and not all. 4. No one that you haven't spoken to in the last 2 years or at least since you've been engaged.

See...here's the problem....i agree with everything you said...and I'm trying to cut people...however...I am marrying the freakin mayor of long island who is friendly to everyone and doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings and feels the need to invite everyone he knows!!!! I love him...but he's driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oof! We've done these. We just happen to come from very large Latin and Italian families. I have to say we could have easily ended up even larger but our parents have been very good about limiting people that we have either not met or seen in quite some time.

you can invite only a few co-workers, this is what i am doing. i work in a large group, but am only friendly with a few.
and ps - my fmil is the mayor of farmingdale so i feel your pain

I think people get too carried away with their guests lists and trying to please everyone in their families and having to invite their friends, and great aunts, etc. If you don't talk to them and don't see them, don't invite them. Keep it too CLOSE friends and family, people you spends holidays and family events with all the time. Our list we got down to 200 and only 50 were from FH's side. He has such a small family.

We were sweating for a while and had to ask the Crest Hollow to actually lower our gaurantee. We got cocky and thought we'd have no problem making 300 (we actually told them we'll probably have 350). A week and a half before the wedding we were only at 185! They lowered to 280 for us (from 300) and we ended up with 270

I have the same issue. Our list is at 285 'bare bones' and we cannot possibly cut anymore people. Everyone on the list is close family (1st cousins only) and friends. We are hoping for 225 max. You are not alone...my family is a huge Irish/Italian one that didn't know how to stop multiplying!!!!!

Harborclub can only hold 240 tops, and my dad is a well known guy in his field and he's been invited to everyone's wedding (and he's paying) so I am trying to allow him to invite as many as possible, but FH said he's not knocking a friend of our's out of a seat so my dad can have some business associate sit there - its not a trade show....

Same problem - we had 285 and we got it down to 260. We actually should start tackling this soon - I'd like to get it to 240 if possible although I don't know that it will be!!

And people wonder why I am adamant about no children and people with dates at my wedding. THIS is where I CUT my guest list. NO KIDS. NO DATES (unless in relationship).
I would rather have a person at my wedding who is old enough to appreciate what a wedding is and means and all of the details surrounding it than a child or someone who felt the need to bring arm candy. Sorry if its harsh but I cannot afford to feed the free world!

I hear you I have a big invite list as well put it this way my FH is 1 of 15 kids so that goes to show you yes he has 14 brothers and sisters. SO his family is huge I have almost 300 people on the guest list I haven't even bothered to look at it to cut people out I will do that in a few months
