I am gonna shove a red hot poker up Glen Cove School District's collective @$$HOLE right now!!!! They have been consistently giving me the run around on enrolling FSD in school. I was told that she couldn't get in until the second day of school (HELLO, its FIRST GRADE, she can't miss the first day!!!) So I called the superintendent who told me it was unacceptable and that I could have an appt for them to go over my paperwork today so we could get her in.
When I was on the phone for the original appointment the secretary told me that YES, I could register her even though I'm not a legal guardian and NO we didn't need court documentation stating that FH was...
So of course, today rolls around and I get a call at 10:35 saying they were double booked and could I come in at 10:30....I'm sorry, is there a time machine somewhere I don't know about?!?! I get there at 10:50 after rushing out the door, only to be told I DO in fact need a copy of the court documentation....ARRRRRG WTH!!!!
There just happened to be a news crew at the building who was trying to speak to the superintendent...they were told to leave the premesis. They wanted to interview me about the first day of school and swine flu, I told them if they really wanted to report on something, they should report on the fact that everyone in this district pays taxes out the nose and they STILL give you a run around when you want to enroll your child in school.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. If she is not in school on the first day I'm seriously going to start bowling with people's skulls!!
Sorry so long....I just REAAAAAALLY needed to get that out!!!
thats insane, they should have told you that you needed the document in the first place - this is terrible for the child!! Is she starting kindergarten??

First grade...and originally the secretary told me 'Don't worry about her missing the first day, they don't do anything on that day'...then when I asked for the superintendent's # so I could let him know that I wasn't going to worry since they don't do anything that day she flipped, saying 'I NEVER SAID THAT!!'

I'm so sorry to hear about all the crap that they are putting you through. What did the people trying to interview say when you responded like that? GC was in Newsday today because they are instituting a no touch policy to prevent the swine flu....that's probably why the crew was there.

wow i can't believe they wouldnt do everything in their power to get her enrolled before the first day....
maybe they dont 'do' anything that day but its still important in terms of makings friends and getting adjusted.

Wow, that is totally bonkers. The reporter didn't say anything, I honestly was just trying to get out of there before I tried to take someone out haha...they did record us walking out of the building to our car so there's a chance I'll be on the channel 2 news tonight which ***** because I looked like hell LOL...had to run out of the house freakin 45 min early.

Lol....hopefully they don't use that footage...unless you want your 15 minutes of fame. Hopefully everything works out for you....those people really need to have their heads examined. They should want to get all the kids enrolled before the first day of school!!

That is ridiculous but if you were not from this country you would have no trouble getting your child enrolled this damn beaurocratic system is ridiculous and if she isn't registered then someone will probably say you guys are the bad parents.

That is absolutely ridiculous. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.
I do want to say though that I think it's so awesome though how active you are in FSD's life.. it really shows, and I think that's so important and wonderful. She's always going to remember that.

uughhhh..... If I were you I would copy all court documents and have them placed in your FSD's folder. I would especially have the custody agreement on file. Mant times paperwork will need to be filled out regarding this but if they have copies of the documents there isn't a question. Just my advice!

Just in case take certified copies of whatever court orders they might require and a regular copy as well because they may not want something that was not certified by the Court.

Trust me...this never ends. I am not an offiial guardian for FH's kids...but attend every shool meeting etc. After nearly 5 years -- I still have trouble sometimes! The school doesnt even know FH or his ex by face...but every once in a while they give me a hard time!
