Honest answers needed

Ok so our wedding day is on 10/31/14. FH and I are huge Halloween and horror movie fans. We love everything about Halloween.

Our families have been asking if this is going to be a costume wedding. Everyone that has asked, we have said no, but we are going to have Halloween decorations and mascarde masks for our guests. Some of our family member keep bringing it up saying how disappointed they are that they can't dress up.

My question for you lovely ladies is, is it tacky to put on the invitations, no costumes? I'm going to have these pictures for the rest of my life, and I don't need people dressing up in crazy costumes, or looking like complete bums. I know I may be bringing this on myself by having my wedding on Halloween, but I wish people would respect our wishes. Thanks!!

I wouldn't mention it on the invitation, but if you have a website you could put up something there. IMO, I think it is tacky for them to assume that it is a costume wedding! I hope no one shows up in costume! :)

Perhaps you could just put 'black tie optional' on the invite? I think people would get the hint and it's a common enough indication that no one would be surprised or offended by it.

I was thinking of saying maybe black tie optional. I mean if people show up in costumes it's not the end of the world, but I hope not lol. Thank you ladies for the input!!

I would also say black tie optional. I can't believe that people are that disappointed it's not a costume wedding. At least in my family, we don't really go all out on Halloween - I wouldn't be disappointed in the least.

I think black tie optional may be your best bet.

Are you having an after party? Maybe say you're having a costume after party?

I really don't think people would show up to a wedding dressed in a Halloween costume, but if you think there's a chance some people might I would write black tie optional.

Thanks for all of the input! The only reason why I am a little worried is that some of FH aunts keep saying how disappointed they are, and they won't shut up about it lol You should not be disappointed if you are over the age of 20 LOL

Awww so awesome! We wanted to book Halloween but all our family complained cause most of them have kids and wouldn't go cause they would take their kids trick or treating. So we picked another significant date which was the day we reconnected at a Halloween party and have been together since. I would put it in the invitation I don't think it's tacky at all seeing the nature of Halloween and it being your wedding day.

You could do something cute like:

'Formally dress, and we'll provide the rest'

'Please dress in formal attire, but we'll have something for your Halloween desires'

'Please dress in evening attire, but we'll have something for your Halloween desires'

'Black tie optional if you should ask, but be prepared to wear our masks'

These are all very cute!
