not going to state mine so i get your truthful thoughts.... AND im not going into major detail....
If someone moves into a house... their first house, reguardless of when.... and decides to have a house warming party (real food and drinks served) is it tacky to have a registry
AND if its not tacky... is it rude to put the place you registered on a invite.
lets just say i dont share the opinions as those around me and im curious to get your take
Edited.... Thanks girls. I WIN!!! hahah we got an invite to a party and it had their registry and I dont want to go now.... just put me off ya know? thanks for the opinion!
edited again.... i wish it were about me... i still dont have a house

my truest opinion is that its tacky and tackier. i have a lot of coworkers who do this. i have never encountered it before that and i always rsvp no pretty much because i find it insulting. (they are not close friends). if someone is having a housewarming, i would buy them a gift card to BBB- and im sure many of that person's close friends would do the same.

I don't think it is inappropriate to have a registry, but I personally wouldn't bother to make one.
I think putting it on the invitation is in poor taste.

people receiving the invite should have enough decency to bring a house warming gift.
i never go to someones house empty handed.. even if its to watch tv. thats how i was raised.
and going to someones home for the 1st time? u better believe im bringing a big gift.
but i would neverrr put anything like that on an invite.
thats like me deciding to have a bday party and including an amazon . c om wish list on an evite...

sorry hun I agree. It would be in poor taste. That is what showers are for. A housewarming is a bottle of wine or a plant. Maybe some glasses or a vase. But I can honestly say if someone told me what to bring I probably wouldn't go, or get them the most hideous thing I could find.

I think it's tacky. I had a big party when we moved into our home, but didnt even call it a housewarming b.c I didnt want people to think I was fising for gifts. But most people brought one anyway. I would be turned off if someone included registry info in the invite

I'm not as easily offended or taken aback by things that people do that are 'against etiquete' but I think if I got a housewarming invite with registry info included I'd even kind of roll my eyes a bit and be like really?. I personally wouldn't do it.

I had friends that did this when they bought their first house and I thought maybe they set up the registry and put it on the invites because she never had a bridal shower before they got married and they had a destination wedding, but I still found it to be strange.

Re: honest opininion
I can see why people think it is tacky, but I don't see anything wrong with this. I have attended several housewarming parties where people indicate where they are registered.
I have appreciated this, because it has saved me the frustration of guessing what to bring (one can receive but so many bottles of wines).
With that said, to err on the side of safety (being that not everyone feels this way), exclude it from your invite.
Good luck and congratulations on your home (assuming the question pertains to you).

taken form greatpartyrecipes.com (i was curious myslef, so did a search lol)
'Should I register?
There is a growing trend toward registering for a housewarming party the way one would for a wedding. Personally, I think it's tacky but the housewarming party etiquette experts say it's okay.
Everyone agrees, however, that you should never, ever include your registry information in the invitations. If your guests ask you what you need or about your color scheme, then tell them where you're registered. Otherwise, the flavor of the party changes from 'Welcome' to 'Come over and bring me presents.''

Re: honest opininion
I myself would not do it, although even worse I was invited to a housewarming party with registry cards in the invite...and it was not even a house they bought it was an apartment they moved into together!!!!!!!
edited for: IMO I would do a stock our bar party or something, this way your guests bring either a bottle of liquor or wine or something

Re: honest opininion
I have been to several house warming parties and only one had a registry and included it in a housewarming invite. I personally thought it was kind of rude. People will bring you a gift or flowers or a plant or a wine, etc.....i don't think you should have to request certain things. This is not a bridal or baby shower, its a housewarming party.

Re: honest opininion
I would never do it, but FSIL did a registry when she got her own apartment Whatever, it just made it easier to buy her a Christmas gift that year, lol.
As for putting it on an invite, yea I wouldn't do that......

I don't think that you should do it. I had a housewarming/tree decorating party when i bought my apartment but I asked for people to bring an ornament for me to hang on the tree that represents our relationship.
It is not appropriate to have a registry for a housewarming. If it is soon after your wedding then some people will have the 'know how' to get something from that registry maybe.

I love the a stock the bar party Idea., Althought it would prob just be easier to make a registry for a new housewarming party I think some people would just be taken back by it., I thought it was the norm to bring gifts the first time you go to someones house - new house especially
