I am not one of those girly girls that love bridal showers. I am usually very bored at the traditional bridal shower.
I went to a beach bbq shower and I loved it. Two of my favorite things in the summer...bbq and the beach. I told my BM's that I wanted a Jack and Jill shower at the beach. I thought it was a great idea and casual. I was planning to invite about 30 ppl.
I am stressed out b/c my BM's are fighting me on this. They are telling me that its too hard to plan a bbq for 30-50 ppl. They are embarrassed that ppl will think its cheesy and a bad idea. I'm surprised that ppl would think that....at least I wouldn't think that.
Do you girls think that a bbq beach shower is cheesy? Its so sad that I have to tell my BM over and over again I want this and they really hate this idea. They seem to keep talking me out of it. I am at a point that I just want to give up and let them do what they want. My MOH really wants to plan an all girls shower...which i'm dreading.
So far my MOH has shot down my idea for my bachelorette party and my shower. I'm just bummed out about it. Sorry its so long.

Honestly,
I think it would be much harder to plan a beach/bbq shower.
As a guest, I would not be thrilled about attending one either.

I LOVE BBQ's so I would love something like that especially on the beach. I would love it if I could have soemthing laid back. I actually was thinking of doing a Jack and Jill shower. Maybe if they want to rent a place that's on the beach.

Ok I'm going to be the devil's advocate here....
First, I PERSONALLY don't like the idea of jack and jill showers. I think they are basically engagement parties then, which I don't know if you have had one already but it would really be the same thing over again. IF you havn't maybe have an e-party beach BBQ that YOU plan....
Second, I understand this is your shower but traditionally you don't plan it. It is up to your BP and Mother usually. I think offering suggestions of what you would like is ok but I don't really think you should be p!ssed or annoyed at them if they don't do it.
I think we all sometimes get wrapped up in the details and foget that people are doing a lot for us Even if you are paying for your whole wedding yourself, I am sure your family members are attending a bunch of functions for you throughout your engagement and probably buying gifts, and we should try to appreciate it more. Even if it is just by being more understanding and accomodating...

I agree that J&J is basically an engagement party BUT maybe just call it that? Say that's what you want!
I personally find showers in places BORING.

your shower, you should be able to request what you want...but i think it's up to the bridal party to plan so ultimately it will be what they decide.
i think a jack & jill bbq is a great idea though! i wouldn't mind attending one or having one of those myself.

I think its a great idea and would not mind if my sisters did that, but my mother said I am not allowed to talk about it they plan it (BP) so i am keeping my shut Lol i think it would cost less as well then a resturant. when my best friend went to her Sil shower they just drank and had a Dj someone i think put on a show she had a blast, they had all the guest wrap the gifts in plastice so she did not have to sit there opening them up!

Stick with what you like - personally I think your idea sounds wonderful!!! It's about us, you know. Not about bridesmaids, moms, etc. And we're not being Bridezilla to want what we like. I say stick to your guns.

I think a beach BBQ shower is a great idea. Personally I would have loved that (I had a tradional shower and I loved it also). I wonder if your MOH and BP think that it is much harder to pull off than a traditional shower? It sounds as if their vision of a shower is very different than yours. OR...they really want to surprise you lol!! I think you have definitely made your wishes known and what will be, will be....the important thing is that they want to be there for you and want to throw you a shower And of course...that you are marryng the love of your life!!!!

I understand that you're not particularly fond of the girlie girl showers. I had a similar one for my bridal shower and it was a bit uncomfortable for me. However, I relaxed a bit once the party got started and went withe the flow of things. If your BM's and family want to throw an exclusive bridal shower for you and go all out, I say go with it and enjoy yourself. After all, it's free and nothing is coming out from your pocket. So just let girls be girls and let them have fun with it. I don't think your Jack and Jill shower is cheesy at all but it might just be too casual and laid back from a traditional bridal shower. I personally wouldn't had mind a beach shower. It sounds fun! Honestly, if that's what the girls plan to do and throw a girlie pink & ribbon theme, then I say let them have their fun b/c you don't want to get them all pissed off while they are planning a surprise exclusively for you. Make the best of it and just relax and have fun!
Are you going to find a bbq place to cater it? I'm concerned that it might be too much too handle with the food - otherwise I think its a fantastic idea!

Thank you girls for giving me some great feedback. I was really scared that I was the only person that liked the idea.
I was hoping it would be a casual event and the boys can enjoy the beach and beers. The FH doesn't mind at all since he plans on eating and drinking. Nothing fancy, no games..just a good old time with friends.
I'll post pics if it goes according to plan *fingers crossed*!
