Re: honestly.

hey babe - i just saw this now

I dont think you are being selfish - i know you are proud of Jimmy and how they paid for the wedding that they wanted - i think you are being a great older sister because you are ready to take on the world for him

i really think that is messed up - i am sorry. . . i know people don't believe in 'covering your plate' but that is not even the point here - the point is being a decent human being and knowing manners and etiquette.

to you! and i am sure the rest of your generous family made up for it

It's always like that. The ones who have all the money in the world wont leave you squat. And you're right it doesnt mean much but come on. Some people suck.

I am aving my weding cause its what i want....but yes i am sure in the back of EVERYONES mind they are looking to make $$ on it!! Now unless you have a really ricjh Family you are NOT gonna make your $$ back at all!!! I was told long ago you shuld guesstimate the price per plate and give that ammount as the gift. but i guess most people dont htink of that. You also get people who dont like the fact that you have an E-party, Then a shower then the wedding.....It is alot for some people. Alot of people dont like that they are paying out so much $$. I work at BBB and hear people complain about it all the time. I have even had people say they arent giving as much at the wedding cause they are getting an expensive shower gift.............
But really...if you are looking to make a good ammount of $$ on you wedding. Don't have it at a very expensive place cause you most likely wont make it back....JMO

it's really a Catch 22 b/c then you're not really happy if the place you want tl have it at is expensive. one dayyyy this will all make sense!

Re: honestly.

um wow i mean my family is cheap but that is bad. I can understand if money is hard maybe buying a gift then giving $50 because that is just tacky. Then to pay for a 30 yrd old with combining it with $50 is just freaking stupid.

i dont think thats what diane was saying... just that its somewhat inconsiderate for close family (first cousins or relatives) to give close to 10$ a person, when they knew her brother and his *gasp* wife were paying for it all out of pocket.

i think she was more shocked... and maybe woudl have be more calm even if it was 20$ or 25$ a person...

I don't know why people gets upset really.
You choose where to have your wedding and who to invite. You don't do it hoping to get your money back. Maybe it's just me, but I'll be more than happy if anyone decides to give me an envelope, but i am not waiting on it.

see my point is that we gave them MORE at their weddings

A LOT MORE

you usually give what you get, no?

Im not sayin they are their to make money...

MY OPINION

my problem is that 3 out of the 4 adults have been married once OR twice...and have received gifts from us

HONESTLY.

would you give 20$ (not 25 my mom corrected me) from u and FH if u went to a wedding

or if u, ur bro and ur 2 kids went..would u give 50$?

ESP when everyone knows u have money

cmon? im not singling you out...

this ? is for EVERYONE.

edit:
if i wanted a wedding to make money do you really think id spend a CRAP load of money in hopes of makin it back?!?!

NO WAY. id have something small and less expensive in hopes of getting monetary gifts. that is not what i am saying.

i never say that im having the wedding to see how much i can make...it was just shockin that family friends...my moms BOSS gave my bro more than my 'close' family who couldnt wait for the wedding and were talkin about it all the time.

my moms boss gave more than 10 times that amount.

EXACTLY

you all kno I am not one to ***** about money!! i mean i pull it from my a-hole when i need to...but i do it.

if u knew me personally im not about the money!

Re: honestly.

Just hope other people make up for it. Its ridiculous and you are not rude at all.

I know the wedding isnt about making $, but that is ridiculous. Especially when like u said- they are not poor and knew about the wedding for a year. (put $10 a week away or something- sheesh)

I have heard that the going rate/ettiquette is $75 - $85 pp. I usualy give more at weddings b/c I know ppl pay more than $85 pp to have me there.
I could see $50 pp MAYBE, but for 4 ppl.

My sister had friends (and family on DH side) come and give NOTHING. Not even a card. One of his relatves said they forgot the card at home. I'm sorry but if I forgot the card, I would run to the nearest CvS and get on the way.

Im sorry they did that to your brother. Is your brother going to say anything?
