50 EFFIN DOLLARS...its not about the money but cmon now...use ur effin head.

her sister and husband...gave 20.

I know it seems really rude of me...but give me a break...u HAVE MONEY...you ARENT struggling...

and you knew about the wedding for over a year!

I would be shocked, but would not make a big deal about it or tell anyone else in the family to embarass them. Like I said before, you never know when someone who may or may not have money is having financial hardship. I would not want the family to start gossiping about how little money they gave at the wedding, because it also would make me look ungrateful to my family. JMHO.

ok but my problem is...that they GAVE ME more at my eparty...which is a party that really..who cares if u get a gift. that was a party to just come and celebrate...no gift required

i didnt want to post that but thats the problem! even tho it wasnt much more..it was more. and that is my problem.

Oh that stinks.....dont tell your bro! does he know?
i dont think he is ungrateful..bc NONE of us are like that at all.

i gave 50 at my friends wedding last year, but i spent over a grand on dress, airfare, hotel, and rental car to be there, so i hope there werent any hard feelings.... people give what they can give. Im tired of reading these 'money' posts, its not about the money at all, i wish nobody gave gifts at my wedding so nobody would have to feel favored or not or deal with politics...

ITA. You give what you can. Just because they work full time or own a bar doesn't mean they can afford to give out a ton of money in gifts (they may look like they lead an extravagant lifestyle but they could be paying for it with CC).

To NOT invite them because of the gift they may or may not give is ridiculous and petty. And, honestly, people will probably cover their plates with their gifts because we are all fortunate enough to have people in our lives who are generous and give way more than the 'cover the cost of your plate' amount.

Vent it out Diane, but I wouldn't let it get to you too much.

I think we should all agree to disagree. It is my opinion, that you should never really discuss the gifts or the amount of money you receive as a gift. That is personal between the person that gave you the gift and you. Still to this day, I dont know how much my sisters 'made' on their wedding day. It is just not something that is discussed. A gift is a gift no matter how you look at it. Be grateful, send a thank you and move on....dont hold grudges. Just my opinion...I know people probably hate me for it, but it is what it is, it is how I was raised.

are you sure they have money.....you really never know sometimes...

my one cuzin is a park ranger...her husband is a teacher. they gave 20$

my other cousin sold her bar...works in the medical field and bartends when she has time.

the other adult that my cousin (bartender) paid for...works FULL TIME

I agree, if u know u are going to a wedding, you should be prepared to give a gift. ESPECIALLY since you gave these people $100 pp. Don't people write these things down. I will keep track of what I ppl give to me b/c I want to give an equal gift at least at their weddings.

It doesnt even seem like its a matter of not having $ with them. I think they are just clueless on etiquette.

YEAH!! Payback is a bItcHH

I disagree...

If my cousin comes to me (which has already happened) and says Im sorry but I really cant afford to come to your wedding, financially I cannot attend. Im definatley 100% hands down going to say ARE YOU NUTS< you better be there you are my family.

I dont expect money from people. And I think every bride will have a big wakeup call once they count their envelopes.

IMO

that is NEVER a problem. had they come to us FINE! we woul dhave been you are nuts just come...the fact is..they didnt..bc they dont have $$ problems ..and im tellin u...i kno they dont have money probs. not that i think i kno..i kno they kno.

but my aunt has done that and i told her dont be crazy...u better be there.

actually you make think this is horrible but its the opposite in my family - we have lists of what everyone gave for my sister's and brother's weddings and my parents consult that list before going to other weddings to see what people gave. . . so they will see what their friends gave and then give that amount when THEIR kids get married. . . half is just pure laziness bc they dont want to figure out what to give . . . but it is also about returning the generosity that was shown to their kids

I am not saying that if people dont have $, they should give me $. But, its just etiquette that you reciprocate a give. If someone said they couldnt afford to come to my wedding, I would also tell them they are crazy and I dont give a crap about a gift from them, just be there. I think i would be more pis*sed if they didnt come just b/c they couldnt give a gift.

That wasnt the whole point here.

Re: honestly.

I think I am just going to leave this conversation before I say anthing that may be upsetting to everyone else. I guess I just have a much different opinion on this than most people. I was raised not to expect gifts from people but to appreciate them when I did receive them, whether it was $5 in a card or a new car! I never once complained about a gift that I received nor has a gift I received ever determined what I would buy someone in return. Life just should not work that way.....

how abotu this..i understand we disagree...some of us.

so we can just end it
i feel like im defending myself but i, too, am allowed to have an opinion...and i just was completely in shock and insulted for my brother..

i kno deep in my heart i still want them there..i just think that it was rude that they gave me more at an eparty...which was important but like..i didnt expect gifts

i just dont want u all to think thats what im about bc im not..TRUST ME! im not mean spirited or greedy or anything of the sort...

edit:
and i too was raised the same way. i wasnt raised any different than u.
