Honeymoon help!

My parents have a timeshare plan that included a honeymoon for us, so we are staying at one of the Palace Resorts in Mexico... the thing is, we can't decide which! There are about 10 to choose from but and its not easy...

What we are undecided about is staying at an adults only resort... or going to a new hotel that is not adults only... It is the week of Thanksgiving so I'm not sure how many kids will be around... I like the idea of no kids, but at the same time, it would be cool to stay at a pretty new place!

What do you think and why? Thanks, as always for your help

Re: Honeymoon help!

I'd probably go with the Adults only being a teacher... As much as i love teaching and kids... sometimes ya just need to get away...

Good luck with your decision!

Re: Honeymoon help!

Well, I think you need to compare ammenities other than whether there are kids or not.

Think about location weather, amenities, decor, restaurants, etc.

There are six hotels. Are there any you can eliminate straight away?

They are pretty much all in Mexico, just different parts... Their ammenities are pretty similar, and we can actually travel to any of the other hotels and use their pool/restaurant/bar etc...

Decisions!!

Re: Honeymoon help!

hmmm, it's a shame they don't have a side by side comparison chart.

Aventura Spa Palace
-adult only
-1266 rooms

Beach Palace
-family hotel
-205 rooms

Cancun Palace
-no kids activities so it appears to be adult only but I'm not sure
-560 rooms

Moon Palace
-2,031 rooms
-family hotel

Sun Palace
-237 rooms
-no kids activities so it appears to be adult only but I'm not sure

Xhu-pa Palace
-464 rooms
-family hotel

So by this info you have two very large hotels, two that medium, and two that are very small. What kind of experience do you want? Do you want a cozy, intimate feel or a busy, chain hotel feel? This should help eliminate a couple of places.

Re: Honeymoon help!

As another post mentioned, atmosphere you and your FH are looking for is definitely key. I could be wrong, but at least 4 of the hotels are in Cancun. I've stayed at the Cancun Palace a couple of times and depending on the time of year also made a difference in the crowd you got. Not sure if you'll find this helpful, and granted this was a good 5 years ago since i last visited, but here's what i remember.

Cancun Palace - Water Activities right on the beach or across the street. Easy and inexpensive cab ride or bus to the shopping and restaurants. Can't remember if I saw kids or not, but i feel like they were there since I feel like someone yelled at someone else for not having a cleaner mouth, but I definitely don't remember feeling overwhelmed in a family atmosphere.

Moon Palace - More remote. Located further back down a 1-2 mile driveway. Looked beautiful from the outside and maybe more luxurious. Only saw from the outside when we picked up guests. Much further from main nightlife or shopping areas of Cancun.

Beach Palace - Smaller and more in the heart of the nightlife and shopping area. We grabbed lunch there and personally at the time, wasn't my fave just cause it was smaller but wasn't a quaint small that is sometimes nice.

Hope that helps a little to give you some more insight into the properties, but maybe you aren't thinking about Cancun - so this all can be irrelevant :-\ I have nothing negative regarding my experiences with the Cancun Palace, except always remember to put your 'do not disturb' tag on the door. We always forgot and housekeeping always knocked at like 8AM!!! Not fun on any vacation.

Good luck with deciding!!!! I'm sure whatever you decide will be awesome!

Re: Honeymoon help!

Thanks... I think we need to print out some info and get as much stuff as we can about each... We have a DVD with highlights of each hotel but it doesn't help much :)

THe only one that is adults only is the Adventura... I like the idea, like I said, of not having kids around but at the same time, I want to have fun and I don't know if that's a more 'serious' type place....

Thanks again!

Re: Honeymoon help!

we stayed at the cancun palace, we loved it although I would pick a hotel for adults only, when we stayed at the cancun palace in August couple of years ago, there was a lot of kids and teens and the pool was always crowded, couldnt find a lounge chair if you got up a little late... plus go with hotels that are in the riviera maya area... cancun is just an island with hotel next to a hotel, no shade, a lot of people... if you need advice in regards to what to see I am your girl

The brand new one opening up is in the Riviera Maya... I want one that will be fun, but at the same time not overcrowded with kids. I think the Adventura might be too much 'seriousness'... I have to really look at all of them! Thanks Aga!
