honeymoon is driving me nuts**SORRY SO LONG***

Original post by Espo22

ok the first place we picked about a year ago was tahiti/bora bora and moorea. The place looks amazing, just like paradise so thats why we wanted that...but after reading MANY reviews and really thinking about it, i realized as amazingly beautiful as it is, its not right for fh and I, neither of us lay on the beach, he HATES it infact and i can only do it for a short period of time. We also dont like to be on schedules when on vacation. The fact that there would be 3 restaurants to really choose from and the most popular one only having about 7 tables and us having to book a restaurant MONTHS ahead of time i didn't want to do. I dont want to make reservations months ahead of time. I dont know how id feel that day, maybe id be tired and want to go to dinner late. But we also want a little bit more of a nightlife.

OK so then it was capri, amalfi coast and other areas of italy. This sounded great and for MONTHS has been our plan. I was glad fh wanted to go to europe. WELL last night he says how he doesnt really want go to italy but capri will be ok...i said NO i want you to LOVE where we're going and be excited and he said he'll go if its what i want. So i said no we'll keep looking.

ok so fh started with his suggestions: san francisco and hawaii, cuba, dubai, argentina, bahamas which i said no right away bc i went there with ex and not going on HM to a place i was at with ex. He keeps going back and forth and its annoying bc we're usually on the same page with interests and likes lol but for some reason he has a thing about not going to europe

Then FH says we'll we talked about monaco so how about that...we go online, i show him the hotels, go to the visit monaco site and show him what there is to do and all that...well he LOVES monaco and now wants that and even picked a hotel. It helps that theres a casino every few feet lol. The one bad thing is that i went on a couple of the hotels sites and they STILL don't have rates yet for may, which was also the problem with capri. I saw general prices on another site that were from 07 so i do have an idea but still i'd rather get exact rates.

But even before we stick with monaco(which i dont mind of course bc since i was a teenager i used to say for my HM i want to go to the french riviera) But i want to explore all options i guess. What are you going or what places do you think we'd be interested in. Remember we need other activities besides laying on the beach, i know for some thats their dream vacation to lay in the sun and drinking nice cold drinks but we don't do that. I also like to just go out at night and be able to roam the streets, walk into a restaurant and then after go for drinks and have a lively atmosphere at night. Casino's are a plus, fh and i have a great time when we go, its good for us to go have drinks, fh gamble and hang out.

sorry this is long but i am gonna give a list of places and we're going to sit down and really look into every place and make sure we are 100% happy with it.

PS-no greece, i think it would be ideal for us but he doesn't want to

what about the french and spanish riviera??? Spain is GORGEOUS and its a great time to go, plenty of stuff to see...might be awesome

FBIL and his girlfriend had to go to Spain for a wedding last summer and were only going originally for a long weekend, but they stayed for like 10 days cause they were having such a blast. And they're huge partiers....so are the Spaniards, they told me that the local were insane (in a good way). They are up all night long. They said they went out every night but still saw beautiful things during the day....they ran with the bulls also, visited the Rock of Gibraltar where the monkeys literally come right up to you and sit on your shoulder. They cannot wait to go back.

OK, here's what I think about FH's suggestions:

San francisco and hawaii: I think you guys could have a blast in Hawaii (though no gambling) if you did Maui b/c there is a ton to do and a bunch of luxurious hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Kauai is beautiful but deserted to some extent - so you're really doing pre-booked activities and lounging, which you don't want. I'd say instead of stopping in San Fran, stop in Vegas, which is what I'm doing b/c FH and I love gambling!

Cuba: I'm going to say don't go. It's not legal to go there. Yes, there are ways to get there, by flying into Nassau or Mexico or Canada first, but it's still technically not legal. Do you really want the stress of having to fly thru another country to get there and then to lie when you return through US customs when they ask if you went anywhere else? I think that's too much stress for a HM (and believe me, I am Cuban and it's my dream to go to Cuba, so I'm the last person to say don't).

dubai: I think this would ROCK as a trip. I think Milana went there and Maldives - check her review. I would've loved this as a trip, but FH was scared about safety in the Middle East (even though I think Dubai is totally safe).

Argentina: Don't know a lot about it.

oh i took vegas off my above list bc i ruled it out...fhs plan really was vegas, san fran and hawaii...BUT for my bachelorette party i am going to vegas which is 3 weeks before the wedding so i dont want to go back after just 3 weeks, and fh is going about 5 weeks before the wedding.

Yeah i mentioned that to Fh about Cuba hahaha, but meanwhile he doesnt want to go to europe bc he thinks they hate americans

I think you need to go some place lively! Like Brazil or maybe Los Angels the Hawaii??

fh is trying to convince me for a week now on san francisco and hawaii but you dont understand, he is saying this bc of a store and yes i really mean a store..his favorite stuff is from the HUF store and theres only 1 in san francisco

OMG, Denise. I feel your pain for this reason. FH wants to extend our HM by a couple of days so we can stop in LA. Why you ask???? Because he wants to go to a Dodger game. Now I love baseball but I told him absolutely not. First, I've been to LA a few times and I just hate that city. Second, I'm not going to a freakin Dodger game on my HM, I'm sorry. Boys.

I think that Hawaii would be a good option because it is very romantic and beachy, but there also a lot of things to do. There are helicopter tours, the volcanos, etc. Plus you are in the United States still so you wont need a passport. Also, everyone speaks English and you can roam freely to different restaurants and bars since it is not a dangerous area.

The only downside is that it is a long flight, but I am planning a vacation there for October with FH and we were thinking of stopping in Vegas or Los Angeles for a day or two on our way to break up the flying.

Another possible suggestion that I have is Rio.

dubai is awesome.. except that language will be an issue... though it is a tourist friendly location, you must be able to converse in arabic or get ripped off on all the touristy things!

hong kong is lovely and right off the coast to the south, there's another small island country called macau which is used to be a portugese colony and has some the best food around! FH has been there and says its beautiful w/ the chinese, portugese influence.. g'luck!!

i'm wishing to get the rates to europe soon, because it's one part of the wedding planning where we have made NO progress in the sense of booking flights, rooms and final dates!!

I'm so glad to hear that because we're hoping for a Spanish HM!!

Re: honeymoon is driving me nuts**SORRY SO LONG***

Here's my suggestion. If you do go to San Fran, stay for a day or so and then go to Napa. FM me if you want ideas. He can go to his store in San Fran but it's not the best place for honeymoon. Great restaurants etc. but Napa was GREAT for honeymoon. In fact, we met a bunch of people there that were honeymooning. The spas there are amazing, the restaurants are top notch, in fact some of the top chefs of the world have their restaurants there including the French Laundry which is Thomas Kellers restaurant.

From there, you can take a flight to Hawaii out of San Francisco. I think Maui would be more your speed. Lots of luxury resorts, shopping and activities. Unfortunately, no gambling but I think you'll have a fun time nonetheless!

SPAIN did cross my mind but never brought it up...i am just not 100% sure about traveling from one place to another, i feel it might kill some of the time we have but might not be bad either, gotta figure this out. OMG i just thought of something, we could go to Ibiza if we do spain, now they definitely have a nightlife there hahah

ETA: As far as those Monaco hotels without prices - did you try Orbitz and all that to see if they have the prices? And if not, did you call them? I bet you can get an English speaking operator to help yoU!

i do have the general price for each room...so i do have an idea, it won't be off by much.

What about Brazil? Is that too far fetched? There are beaches, but there is also a ton to do I'm sure. You'd have the best of both worlds.

Egypt? Beaches and stuff to do. Someone here went to Egypt on their HM (and 07 bride).

I was thinking Brazil. It's crazy how many places in the world there are to go.

Oh, FH went to South Africa and loved it, but I'm not sure it's 'honeymoony' He did safari rides, ocean adventures and LOTS of drinking!!!!

FH mentioned south africa too, he said johannesburg(sp?), id love to do it one day but like you said not sure if its 'honeymoony'

i really love the idea of Monaco and the French Riviera
I think there is alot to do there, tons of shops, restaurants, late night happenings

I think you should get in touch with a good travel agent, and get some rates and prices

Hi date-twin-who-has-still-not-booked-their-HM too - LOL.... We're in the same boat Although, we did speak to the TA last night and are making some progress- I was originally just talking to him but last night we conferenced in FH. We are probably going to do 3-nights Rome, 3-nights Florence (with day trips to Tuscany, Pisa and Venice) and then on the Cinqueterre or Lake Como (probably Cinqueterre) for 3 or 4 more days... OK, enough about me... LOL

For you guys- what about:
Thailand (a friend just went there and LOVED her HM but it was $$$ and more activiites than nightlife/ must like Thai food)
** Spain- Barcelona/ Madrid (absolutely a night life and can go to Italy or France too if you want to split the trip)
A split HM- a few days in maybe Rome or another major port and then a cruise? Affordable and lots going on so you won't get bored.... You can choose a nicer cruise ship b/c it's your HM (we were orinionally looking to do this)
Brazil- I've heard good things/ nightlife
London/France- nightlife/ but $$$

** my favorite option for you guys based on what you said you want / time of year , etc...

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I think Monaco sounds like your best bet.

I've been to Capri a few times and honestly, it's beautiful, but a bit boring after you see the sights.

Australia is just sooo far! I'd love to go, but it's far.

I've heard that there are some wonderful resorts in India...don't know if that's an option.

hong kong is a long flight too...now i dont mind them bc ive done 14 hour flights quite a few times, about 8 or 10x so i am used to it...BUT since ive done this alot i also know how much time you waste. WHen you get anywhere the first day you are just shot...i dont sleep much on a plane and the mostmaybe 2 hours so ill be exhausted when i get anywhere, i usually sleep the entire day when i arrived lol

I know, why are they taking so long with the europe rates.
