So we just came back from the travel agent and found out that the 50% off sale for Sandals, which is where we were looking into going for our honeymoon, is ending tomorrow. Which means we need to make a decision NOW! We def want an all inclusive place with a beach with a lot of things to do. As much as FH and I love the beach, we get bored and need to have other things to do. I know Sandals has the water sports and everything included. Now, the problem is, my mother just made me feel really bad saying that I want everything (a nice wedding, a nice honeymoon, a house) and I'm not sacrificing anything, and she doesn't understnad why I have to have everything now. Meanwhile, I have saved thousands of dollars on my wedding by talking vendors down, I have tens of thousands of dollars saved for a down payment for a house, and both FH and I have full time, decent paying jobs. She says there is no way we are going to be able to afford everything, but everyone else I talk to says that we are in better shape than most people. Anyway, we got quoted for in the 4000's for a 7 night, 8 day stay at St. Lucia Regency (that includes flight, taxes, tips, everything except shopping). When I told her this, she said it was WAY too much and basically told me that I am selfish and can't have everything. She said she went to the Poconos for her honeymoon bc she decided that a house was more important to her and that she sacrificed and so should I. I don't know what to do bc like I said, the sale for the Sandals ends tomm and we need to decide NOW!!! Anyone with any input, suggestions, tips, advice, ANYTHING, please let me know. TIA

Re: Honeymoon (long)
I think that you should do what you want to do regarding your honeymoon. You know how long it would take for your to save 4k and you have to decide if you would want to wait those extra couple of months before buying a house. My gut is go for the honeymoon you want. I think that it's the green eyed monster coming out from your mom.

Re: Honeymoon (long)
i cant make your decision for you obviously but just to let you know i am paying about $3000 more for the same exact honeymoon and I have heard nothing but great things about sandals
AND
what is it her concern? I know it is hard to take criticism from our family and friends BUT you explained your situation and it sounds like you have everything under control!
she sounds jealous!

Re: Honeymoon (long)
I think you should do what will make you and your FH happy--if you know you can afford it, go for it!! You won't regret doing it as long as you can afford it, but you might regret not doing it!
And we booked at Sandals Grande Ocho Rios through the Sandals website during the 50% off sale and got 50% off too! it's a great deal, and they get good deals on flights too (we compared doing is separately through hotwire etc and it was better through the site).
Is there a fee for the Travel Agent? If you're just doing Sandals you can probably do it directly through them--they are really nice over the phone and will still book flights etc. and make sure you have transport from the airport and all that jazz....could save you a little bit

Re: Honeymoon (long)
First of all, you are doing NOTHING wrong. If you can afford a wedding, honeymoon, and house right now than thats all the matters. Now if you were financing everything, charging up your credit cards, and taking out loans that would be a different story. But if you have enough money saved up to swing it that thats fine.
I am doing the same exact thing. My wedding is anything but average, Im buying a house(closing in two weeks hopefully) and we are having a decent honeymoon. We did cut back on the honeymoon because our orginal location was expensive and we decieded to save that for our 1st year anniversary. Instead we are going to Aruba for $3000.
My mom was the same at first. She thought I was overdoing it but in the end its not about what makes her happy but what makes you happy. Our parents started out in a time when things were much less expensive, houses and weddings didnt exactly break the bank, and they didnt have as much debt let alone any student loans. So sometimes they dont exactly get our struggles.
I would say that a $4000 honeymoon (especially to Sandals which is very expensive) is very good. So make your decision- I dont really think you will loose with any Sandals resort.

Re: Honeymoon (long)
Everything about weddings was different when our parents got married.
If you & FH can afford it, and you are paying for it, then its no one else's business.
Also, $4000 for a honeymoon is NOT the high end. Some people spend $10,000 or more on theirs ...

Your mother is not the one goin on the HM nor is she the one paying for it right? I think you should book it regardless if you are happy with it...

I say go for it!!!! That is a great price and it's what you want, don't let this opportunity pass you by. This is your honeymoon, do whatever you want! You'll eventually get a house, but this is the time of your life!!!

Re: Honeymoon (long)
You deserve your honeymoon. I'm sorry your mom is giving you such a hard time. She may mean well, but it is your decision. I don't think that 4K is too much for a once in a lifetime honeymoon. And you are not getting everything you want -- you are taking a reasonably luxurious honeymoon. People spend 5x that amount and go for a month, first class, etc. I think you are being perfectly reasonable and deserve it.
