Honeymoon (long)

Original post by babieblueeyez96

So we just came back from the travel agent and found out that the 50% off sale for Sandals, which is where we were looking into going for our honeymoon, is ending tomorrow. Which means we need to make a decision NOW! We def want an all inclusive place with a beach with a lot of things to do. As much as FH and I love the beach, we get bored and need to have other things to do. I know Sandals has the water sports and everything included. Now, the problem is, my mother just made me feel really bad saying that I want everything (a nice wedding, a nice honeymoon, a house) and I'm not sacrificing anything, and she doesn't understnad why I have to have everything now. Meanwhile, I have saved thousands of dollars on my wedding by talking vendors down, I have tens of thousands of dollars saved for a down payment for a house, and both FH and I have full time, decent paying jobs. She says there is no way we are going to be able to afford everything, but everyone else I talk to says that we are in better shape than most people. Anyway, we got quoted for in the 4000's for a 7 night, 8 day stay at St. Lucia Regency (that includes flight, taxes, tips, everything except shopping). When I told her this, she said it was WAY too much and basically told me that I am selfish and can't have everything. She said she went to the Poconos for her honeymoon bc she decided that a house was more important to her and that she sacrificed and so should I. I don't know what to do bc like I said, the sale for the Sandals ends tomm and we need to decide NOW!!! Anyone with any input, suggestions, tips, advice, ANYTHING, please let me know. TIA

You only having one honeymoon, and your price includes airfare, I envy you

We're honeymooning at Sandals also, the Whitehouse in Jamacia, we're going from June 9- June 20th, and we're paying more in addition to not having air fare included.

I don't knwo your excat finances but, Idk why you shouldn't be able to.

There are lots of other good all-inclusive resorts other than Sandals. Don't feel presured into purchasing now just b/c you think you may miss a sale. We booked our honeymoon in September (we went in December), and still caught some 'sale' prices.

Are you dead set on going to a Sandals?

no we are not DEAD set, however, i have heard great things about it and we love the fact that all the water sports, including the motorized ones, are included in the price, so really when we go we wont have to pay a dime for anything! we couldnt find any other places that were like that

My advice...BOOK IT...NOW!

You have already made up your mind...why are you letting your mom influence yours and FH's decision? You have both already made up your minds. Who doesn't want everything? I know I do.

As hard as it is...you life is about FH and you. You are adults, you make your own decisions and its up to you! Not mom, dad, friends, sisters...YOU and FH!!!!!

Book it!

i'm sorry you are going through this..to be honest your money is your and your fh's business only. If you want it and can afford it go for it!!! ultimately its what makes you happy! and so what you want to go on a nice honeymoon and have a nice wedding..you only get married once right?!?

do what makes you happy. If you guys are in a position that you can afford it and still havemoney for your house and all, then do it. Your mom may not have been in the situation that you are so she had to sacrafice. but if you have it, and you can afford it, then do it :) its your honeymoon afterall! :) have fun!

Re: Honeymoon (long)

I had a relationship with my mom in which I felt guilty if she didn't agree with my decisions...In time, I had to learn that I can consider her advice, but my FH and I have to be happy...since, she has divorced and she can sometimes express jealousy.

We both (FH and I) already have homes, great jobs and the wedding budget is going well. Unfortunately, my mom has non of this. As I will always love her, if I danced to her beat-I may not have made the choices that got me where I am.
If you want to book it, book it.
Best of Luck-It gets better!!

If this is the honeymoon you envisioned book it. You do not want to live with regret.

If you arent sure and are just considering it because of the price, I'd wait. Sandals seems to have similar sales pretty regularly.

You scared us into booking though! We were pretty much set on Sandals St. Lucia, and were waiting until I was done with finals to book. We knew which rooms we wanted, what days we wanted, etc. We booked tonight just in case prices go up in 2008, and because amazing new flights were up now that weren't available when we looked in August (we're flying from NY but flying back to a different state).

Sandals isn't that expensive compared to other honeymoons, especially because it's all inclusive. If you want to cut costs though, a cruise can be a lot cheaper and similar with the all inclusiveness (although they don't include alcohol or excursions).

This is your honeymoon, do what you want! It's a once in a lifetime thing! (which is why FH and I decided to extend our honeymoon a day even though it means he'll miss an extra day of work and I'll miss the first day of classes of my last year of law school)
