Re: Honeymoon registries...
I don't think it's cheesy and rude. It's just another choice. I wasn't going to do one, since FH and I do not yet live together and really do need all the housewares, etc. but my friends expressed that they wanted to buy us experience gifts. My MOH bought her other bff and DH an all day spa day, which FH would love, and I would actually not really go for. I feel awkward flat out telling people what to buy, so this was a good way to express that. 2 gifts have already been bought from it, one within like 20 min of us posting it on facebook. I think it's really popular with the younger crowd. They might feel awkward giving cash, or they might want to give a gift, but not a houseware. You're not forcing people to do it, esp if you also have a traditional registry.
I'm using honeyfund. I like it because there are no fees. The only fee occurs if they pay by credit card, they pay the 3% paypal fee, which is a LOT less than the other sites charge. They also have the option to give you the gift in cash or check, but earmark it towar the gift they want to give you. I can show you my registry if you want. Someone gave us a land and sea tour and paid by CC (We already have the money in our paypal account), and someone else pledged to give us cash for a dolphin and whale watching cruise.

WOW!
What did you put on it? Did people buy more experiences or did the also just put money toward your trip?
Thanks!

I don't see anything wrong with it. I personally never set one up, but we already paid off our honeymoon by the time I was setting up registries.

Re: Honeymoon registries...
They are not cheesy and rude! Its your life/wedding as long as you register for some gifts too, im registering for 15-20 gifts and then with travelers joy so that me and my FH can go on our first vacation together
And if some guests are like me I hatehatehate shopping, getting that dumb list and walking around the store
I feel like ill get some gifts just out of the sheer convenience of it u know.

Re: Honeymoon registries...
We didn't think it was rude. We have lived together and didn't have as much to register for so liberty travel (booked our honeymoon through) is doing it for us. Not like registering at chase bank but how many french presses do you need?

Re: Honeymoon registries...
We have been living together for a long time and will be moving to a smaller apartment in NYC! So to us, this made a lot of sense. I notice that the most popular gifts have been experiences vs. paying for a hotel/ferry. So I think I am going to tweak it in the next months, removing some hotel requests and adding more excursion/experience requests

Re: Honeymoon registries...
We have a Disney one. Everyone who knows us (me) knows we( me) are huge Disney fan(s). FMIL said it was tacky, and that she knew someone who did had a Disney honeymoon registry and if they want something to buy at Disney they should buy it themselves. I see it as, instead of giving me some stupid cup or towel, why not give me something I would really like and use? Plus we've been living together for 4 yrs, yeah we could use new towels, but we don't need them.
