FH and I are disagreeing on our unplanned honeymoon... i want to go to Fiji and/or Tahiti or somewhere exotic like that...all he says is that spending $10,000 on a honeymoon is not going to happen
about what are you spending???if you don't mind me asking
We also can't go until the summer because i will be teaching or subbing at least
There is a cruise from Princess Cruises that goes to Tahiti and Hawaii. I don't know price wise if that is a better value. I do know your food and much of the entertainment is included. Can't hurt to check it out. Good luck!
I just checked and Princess doesn't offer that cruise in May. But Celebrity offers one to Hawaii for 10 days in May.
as my fh would say.... a wedding and honeymoon are a 1 time thing, so dont be cutting corners..... however he also believes in not going crazy, so id say maybe you could go for a shorter amount of time?
We are about ready to book our honeymoon. It is slightly over $12,000 for flights, hotels, and breakfast. I am a little scared of spending so much money (esp. when it doesn't include shopping, dinner and lunch). But we decided that we are going to do it anyway. It is a once in a lifetime trip.
We REALLY can't afford to spend that much. I tried to limit our budget as much as possible with everything. With our honeymoon, it came out to around $2900 for airfare and hotel for six nights in Turks and Caicos. It's not all-inclusive or anything, so we'll still have to figure in expenses for food, drinks and activities.

we did the Princess Cruise to Tahiti. we absolutely loved it and it was a great value - Tahiti and the surrounding islands are very, very expensive if you try to do them by land. also - if you do decide on Tahiti - since the flight is sooo long, you would really need to do more than 7 days to make it worthwhile - so that will also increase the price.
thank you so much ladies... although i would love to go on a cruise and it would make more sense (have bene on one before and loved it) FH is not crazy about the idea for a honeymoon.. i ahve no idea why not
you should ask your FH why he is against a cruise. does he not like cruising at all, or just as a HM option? if you are really into tahiti - the cruise is such a reasonable option. they treated us like royalty!!! we had balloons and a banner on our door, so all of our neighbors knew we were on our HM. it was great! they also sang it us during one of the formal dinners.
YOu could always go somewhere in Mexico like Playa Car or Tulum or Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. These places all 5 * resorts and they are all very inexpensive with beautiful beaches.
now i want to go on a cruise!!! your cruise well he just wants to relax on a far away island! not travel on a cruise... hmmm he is being tough just don't want to fight about it with him..you know.. i am sure we will come to a compromise but i am definately going to bring the cruise up and about getting more for your $$$ it sounds (but still very $$$)
these are our only set backs me- won't go to Mexico... been there 3 times FH- not a cruise
I agree it is a trip of a lifetime that you will never take once you have kids and if you have the money I say go for it....but this is a woman talking...hehe.
We are going to Bali for 14 days and spending about $6500 which doesn't include most lunches or dinners or drinks but does incluse breakfasts and our scuba diving while we are at the dive resort. I would say we probably end up spending about $8000 on our honeymoon. I had to convince FH on this but he agreed and he worked overtime to pay for it.
Now the only thing different for us is we already own a house. If that was not the case I am sure I would be dealing with the same situation you are.
We are doing 14 days in Hawaii for 3,400. Two islands, but we made some sacrifices. When we are in Oahu for 4 days we do not have a great view in our room. Because we made this decision we were able to stay for two more days. You oculd put me in a cardboard box in Hawaii and I would be happy.
We are only having a honeymoon because we bought a time share in Cabo San Lucas Mexico for a GREAT price--so we only need to buy the plane tickets and spending/food money. But I registered for TheHoneymoon.com to hopefully offset the cost for us. We only have wedding money b/c we refinanced his ski house in Pennsylvania...otherwise it is TIGHT...
We are buying a house, set to close in June, and honestly I would give up Hawaii for my house! That is the start of our life in our home, the honeymoon will be over in 2 weeks where as the house is OURS!
Well, we are spending about $5,000 for an all-inclusive in Jamaica. We are kind of in the same situation with the house down payment. If you put down 75000 on a 30 year mortgage for a 350,000 house, you will be spending about 1650.00 on mortgage payments. If you put down 85,000, it is 1580 or so. The different may not seem like much, but you are looking at $70 more a month, every month, for 30 years. So that comes to $25200 more over the course of a 30 year mortgage to spend 10,000 more on a honeymoon now. And a 350,000 house will probably be a fixer-upper needing lots of $ put into it! We've been meeting a lot with lawyers going into contract now for buying, and we realized it is so easy to just think of how much easier it would be to put less down now, but looking over the course of the mortgage you see how much more you will be paying in the long run. I was a financial analyst before though, and I tend to now be too rational about money matters...
I am going to do Sandels, Montigo Bay, but the Caribbian Resort. It is all inclusive, drinks, food, snacks, water and land sports. I have heard good things about this particular one. We think we will be spending about 5,000.
IMO, $10,000 is ridiculous to pay for a honeymoon....we paid $3538 for ours and we couldn't have imagined it to be anything more perfect than what it was......

70 a month X 12 months a year X 30 years is 25,200, not 252,000. That makes it a little more bearable spend the 10,000 now on the honeymoon.
You can't say that 10k is ridiculous because for some peopel it isn't. Everyone is in different financial positions so it's not fair to judge those of us who are spending that much.
