Honeymooners going to Mexico....

I just called the reservation line to the Excellence PM hotel and spoke with a gentleman who lives in the area. He was very nice in answering my questions. He said that they have not had any incidents in the area what so ever and he lives near the resort. I asked him about driving around in the area and he said there have been no issues and that the hotel is packed with spring break visitors right now. He also said that he has been watching the news and that it has been bringing bad publicity to the area. The danger is near the boarder which is 5+ hours away from where Excellence is. I'll be honest I'm a little nervous about traveling into the area but he said it's the same publicity that happened during Sept 11th when no one wanted to go to NY for a while. Just something I thought I'd share to ease some minds out there.

Thanks for sharing! We're going there. I wasn't really worried about it but it's still nice to hear.

Thanks. I am going there for my HM and have done research and found that there is no threat there. ALso you are not home so you have to think safe. My FH is freaking out about Mexico. I think is is going to be fine.

Thanks for posting this I was about to change our HM but after doing some research and speaking to my TA and now after reading this too we have decided to still go to EPM

I actually decided to change my honeymoon to Mexico. I'm sure it would have been fine but it was stressing out my whole family. My poor grandmother was calling every day to see if I was still going to go and I just decided it wasn't worth it.
We had trip insurance and Travel Tom helped me rebook everything. He was awesome! Even though he probably thought I was crazy for wanting to change - he said we'd be perfectly safe - he helped me find an awesome - and even cheaper - package!

I was never changing my plans i had no interest in going near the border any way..LOL... How many murders etc happen in other countries that they dont tell us about!!! With that kind of attitude no one would go anywhere lol.
