Horribly ...good news

Original post by smilesjc81

text message thread to my phone as follows
***********************************************

sister : surgery is set for march 21st

me : what surgery?

sister : dad is getting a new kidney

me: WHAT?? from who?

sister: I'm giving him one of mine
***************************************************
I had NO clue this was in the works and Scheduled now for 3 weeks before my wedding

I was SO upset for 3 reasons

ONE - I was kept in the dark that they were even testing for this

TWO- it's 3 WEEKS before my wedding

THREE - I am so stressed, and no one thought it important to tell me my dad and sister where have organs moved around.

I am THRILLED my dad can get a new kidney

but I was piiiisssed that I was kept in the dark about a major family event, so close to my own wedding!

Am I wrong?

I am sorry to be completely honest, but I cannot believe the responses on here!

First, I would like to clap my hands to your sister for being 'other centered.' Secondly, they didn't tell you because you have enough on your plate. Lastly, and most importantly what if God forbid something happened to your dad, one to three days before your wedding? How would you feel then?

I honestly believe that instead of being upset at your family, you should be thankful to your sister for giving you a wedding gift so big, even if it's so close to your wedding! In spite of what you may think- this is a bigger deal than your wedding!

I pray that everything goes well with your sister and your dad. I also, pray for a speedy recovery so that he can walk you down the aisle.

To be honest, you should be nothing but overjoyed that this is happening. Good luck to them both. Remember, you wedding is just one day...

I can totally understand how you are feeling. All you can do right now though, is try to keep positive. Yes, it is a dangerous surgery, but I'm sure they have a great doctor, and they are both in good hands. I wish your family the best, and hope for speedy recoveries for everyone!

first - i am very happy - AND very worried about both my sister and my father under going major surgery.

2nd - im offended that you would presume to think i didnt think it was bigger than my wedding.
I think it's a HUGE deal, and because it IS bigger than my wedding I am hurt and upset that they didn't tell me.
I had a right to know, and when I asked, they all simply said 'oops, we thought you knew'
there was no plot to protect me, just an gross oversight to tell me.
THAT oversight is what has hurt me.
the only thing that makes it worse is that fact that I want my father at my wedding, healthy and happy
I am VERY happy he is getting a kidney, but put off by my family negligence to tell me.
my wedding is not a bigger deal than my father health, which is why I am so annoyed, the wedding is just another reason I am stressed over the whole thing.

Everyone needs to relax she isn't saying she is mad about the surgery and how dare they before her Wedding! Just hurt that no one told her which is reasonable.

that is great new Naomi but I would be upset as well if this was kept from me. That is a huge surgery and I can understand if they didn't want to stress you out but this situation probably stressed you out more than anything. I pray for a speedy recovery for your dad and sister

I would be upset too but they prob didn't wanna upset you or add to any stress until they had everything figured out. I'd be pissed too to be kept outta the loop but I'm sure they did it with good intentions. Hope everything goes well with your father and thats great that ur sister is donating! The main thing now is his recovery!!

I don't think some people read Naomi's post correctly.

<--- Naomi happy that her dad is getting a new kidney

<--- Naomi concerned for them both because it is major surgery.

<---- Naomi sad and confused why she wasn't included on a serious family matter

eta: nowhere did she say or imply her wedding was greater than her dad's HEALTH

I would definitely be upset if no one told me, but I think they probably just didn't want to stress you out. I still think it's a big deal though and I think you have every right to be mad about it. Sorry hun, atleast your dad is getting a new kidney. I hope everyone is feel 110% for your wedding!

Re: Horribly ...good news

From the way your text convo went I'd totally believe your sister actually thought you knew. You have to remember this is extremely stressful for her too! Can you imagine giving up your kidney to save your dads life? My mom went into Kidney failure and I didn't even hesitate to offer to be tested. I look back on that and go 'wow, that was a huge decision I was about to make.' My mom recovered without the need for a new kidney thankfully. As for your family they probably thought your mom told you. Don't sweat it, try to be strong for your family and be happy this surgery will be happening at all. I'll keep your sister and father in my prayers.

I think you missed the point of Naomi's post. She is hurt that her family didn't keep her apprised of her fathers situation. Trust me when I say you would be upset too if this happened to you... My mom had kidney failure, my dad was told she wouldn't make it through the night. He didn't tell me. That was the worst I've ever felt! My mom almost died and noone told me. Naomi, its totally normal to be upset.

Dr. Oz says you should be able to read a piece of newspaper through your pee.

Let your mom know and tell her not to let your dad flush anything until she does the paper test
