How far in advance do you usually handle the hotel block? My wedding is March 2012, and I had thought this would be one of the things that would be taken care of only a few months before.
However, at the showcase I was speaking to the guy from Fox Hollow Inn and he said I should book right away. I don't know if it was just a sales pitch or I really need to put this as a priority.
TIA

Re: Hotel Block
Oh I'm doing my contract either this month or next month and I'm getting married 9/12 and then people will be able to start booking their rooms a year before my wedding date, I would definitely do it to make sure you have your room block at the hotel you want!

Re: Hotel Block
i booked mine as soon as i booked my RH (which was March 2010 and my wedding isnt tiil this august) I dont know if you def need to book it that far in advance, but i know the hotel i booked with honored their 2010 rates for the block instead of increasing their rates (which one hotel i looked at told me they had to include a 10% increase bc it was so far in advance). cant hurt to do it now

Re: Hotel Block
Do it now. I was engaged once before and tried to block rooms at several hotels; All were already blocked and couldn't accommodate me. Save yourself the headache and get it out of the way now.

Re: Hotel Block
We blocked our hotel a little under a year in advance to lock in the lowest rate possible for our guests.

Re: Hotel Block
I am getting married in April 2012 and I already blocked my rooms. I plan to include the hotel card with the Save the dates.

Re: Hotel Block
I booked mine a year in advance. I'm glad I did because the hotel wasn't accepting any more blocks around the 6 month mark (I tried to expand my block and they told me they couldn't because the whole hotel was either booked or blocked).

Re: Hotel Block
Wow...thanks ladies. Guess I better get a move on this!
Also, anyone blocked at the Inn at Fox Hollow? I think the guy also mentioned your responsible for at least 60% of the rooms. So if I block 10 and only 4 book, I still have to pay for up the remaining 2? Is this the norm?

Re: Hotel Block
I am planning to block rooms next month at the latest!!
I've heard that some hotels require a min guarantee but others don't. Shop around! Though I've heard Fox Hollow is very nice.

Re: Hotel Block
Most hotels won't let you book the block until the one-year mark.

Re: Hotel Block
I booked my RH in September for this upcoming May. I believe that we did our room block in November. We had to research various hotels and rates. Now my block is full and the hotel has no rooms left until other blocks expire!!! I would do it as far in advance as possible, and then give your guests a 'head's up' so that you can add rooms to the block if need be!

Re: Hotel Block
I would do it 6 months out to ensure you get your top hotel and max number of rooms.

Re: Hotel Block
I blocked rooms as soon as I knew where I was having my wedding and sent out my STD's. I found 3 different places to block and one cheapie that was just around in case young people needed a place that was less expensive. I only had to put a deposit down for the EW. The other two I only had to sign a contract. Of course it doesn't mean that anyone will actually book there rooms that early, but they sure will ask you the prices of the hotel rooms that you've blocked!
