So we booked two places for the hotel block. FMIL requested that I find a hotel for under $100, whihc is nearly impossible on LI, especially Labor Day weekend. FH's family are all OOT. But I did find one - the Huntington Country Inn. We got the rooms for $99.
We went there and it was ok, pretty much what you expect from a motel. The reviews online were not great, but I had figured that people would look up the two places and pick the one they want to stay at - you get what you pay for right?
Well I just checked the reviews again and they are just awful. I'm wondering if I should cancel the block all together - I don't want people to think we didn't care enough to pick a nice place....
The choices for that price point is so limited around the RH (CHCC).
What do you girls think?

Re: Hotel block dilemma
why not keep some rooms blocked at that Motel and then some at a nicer hotel. That way people can make their own decision based on what they want to spend.

I agree!! Maybe you can pass on the word that it might not be the nicest motel, but its the cheapest?

Re: Hotel block dilemma
Yeah, that was our original thought...give people the option. I just don't want people to get bed bugs or something.

Re: Hotel block dilemma
We had a similar dilemma. We wanted to try to get $100 (or at least close), but we just couldn't. We're going to put on our website that people can also check out priceline or expedia for hotels near JFK. They're not the nicest, but if they're really looking for something cheap, they can stay there.
I'd keep the cheap one and block at another place. That way people see that you've put interest in, and that you're giving them options.

Re: Hotel block dilemma
I personally would not let anyone stay at that hotel......I grew up in the area and its not thought of as a great place.
Keep calling around don't give up I got the courtyard marriott ronkonkoma for $99 bucks valentines day weekend...

Re: Hotel block dilemma
Yeah, as some of the other girls said, I'd get two blocks, but i'd make sure to note that one is 'budget' and one is not
Personally, i'd rather pay an extra $40 to get a nice room ... but i guess others could feel differently ... let them choose

Re: Hotel block dilemma
I think its good to give them a choice, but I hesitate b/c I'm sure some people who aren't as internet savvy (i.e. older people) may not check the reviews and just assume you picked an okay hotel. If you do keep it, make it clear on the invites and website that its a 'budget' hotel.

Re: Hotel block dilemma
Our block was for $119 and we only had one couple (my aunt and uncle) who refused to pay that so they went on priceline and did a blind $99 reservation -- and ended up right nearby anyway.
I feel like people who don't want to pay the price for what you blocked will find their own place to stay and you shouldn't have to worry about that. It's already such a pain figuring out transportation to the wedding from one place, trying to coordinate it all from two could be more of a headache than it's worth, especially if you're not pleased with the second choice hotel.

Re: Hotel block dilemma
Def give people an option. They might not mind paying the extra $$ for a better place to stay. She shouldn't make that choice for them.

I think that's a good idea then at least you can give people options.

Re: Hotel block dilemma
honestly, i would cancel it. if people want to find a better price they can go on priceline or hotwire
are you providing transportation for the hotel guests? if not, there is no need for EVERYONE to stay at the same hotel if they dont want to

Re: Hotel block dilemma
FYI - the Huntington Hilton gave me $119/night, which is only $20 more than my brother's hotel rooms were, which was in New Hampshire!!!
I think if you find something in the $99-129 range, people will be fine with it, and if they really don't want to pay over $100/night, then they can find their own option.
people are so annoying!!!
