Ok, so how much is too much to charge your oot guests for the hotel block? I got prices from two different hotels so far and this is what I got: Four Points Sheraton $129 a night for the full week before the wedding and 3 days after. $150 to rent out the bar after the party (but the bar will also be open for the public and other bridal parties to use) $425 for the shuttle service (2 hours to get there, two hours to get back...I have actually heard bad things about this kind of shuttle service they offer) They also werent too fond of me wanting a bridal suite for FH the night before the wedding and the night of our wedding, not so sure why...There is also an 80% financial obligation for FH and I, we have to pay for 80% of the rooms even if they dont book.
Allegria Hotel and Spa is $229 a night for the week before and day after the wedding. The hotel isnt even open to the public yet so we are getting a private walk through of the hotel before it opens...There are two different bars I can choose to keep open, and it would only be open to our party. They dont offer shuttle service as of yet, but if they do offer it in time we would have 'first dibs' on it. We have no financial responsibility if all of the rooms in our block dont book...This hotel isnt your typical hotel, Shawn and I both REALLY want to stay here, their top level suite is GORGEOUS...This is a very modern hotel, almost like Manhattan in Long Beach...

Re: Hotel Block prices??!!
I would ask your mom and FMIL what they think honestly they will have a better idea of what people will anticipate spending.
Obviously the scond choice sounds MUCH better. I have never heard of the 80% financial obligation for unbooked rooms! That's insane! plus the shuttle and all....
Where is the Allegra one, I want to check it out for me and FH too... thanks!

Re: Hotel Block prices??!!
hotel blocks have been tough. Hotels seem to be sooo expensive and you never know who is actually going to book a room or not. While the $229 hotel sounds a lot better, I know for some older couples and even some younger, that amount would be too much to spend. So maybe find another hotel that doesnt requrie financial obligation and offer both to your guests.

Re: Hotel Block prices??!!
i blocked at the Four Points Sheraton.. but i only blocked 15 rooms (least amount you can block without a financial obligation) & i was quoted $125/night (good price to me)... i was told if my rooms book up they still can add to it based upon availability... so i took that route
i also booked the bridal suite, but only for the night of the wedding.
i do not plan on using their shuttle service, i am going to see if i can get a deal with my limo company to do the pick ups, since i have already arranged the drop offs
& the bar being open until 4am for $150 is worth it to me, i know my family will be looking forward to that
plus, an added bonus, this hotel is only 4 miles from the North Ritz
Good Luck!!!

Re: Hotel Block prices??!!
its hard to say what is too much for OOT, you know your guests best and what they can financially afford. i decided not to do a room block bc all my guests are staying at different hotels so I didn't want to be stuck with the financial obligation.

See they told me the minimum amount of rooms to book would be 10, then I would have to add on to the block in groups of 5...And then if those extra five rooms dont book I am responsible to pay for the others, despite the fact that they release the rooms to the public to be booked...

I know one of the places I spoke to said while we didnt have a financial obligation to the rooms, if we didnt book 80% of the room block, the rate could not be guaranteed.

Re: Hotel Block prices??!!
we blocked at the inn at fox hollow.. we need to fill 75% of the rooms in our contract. but we know people who are going to definitely get a room, so we're not worried.
if you know you're definitely going to fill 8 of the rooms, that clause shouldn't be that big of a deal
the second hotel does sound really nice though!

Re: Hotel Block prices??!!
The rooms for our block is a $149 a night, but its considered a holiday weekend, plus its the hotel right next door the RH, so there is a convenience factored into it also. But we are not obligated to any costs if rooms do not get blocked and we don't have to pay any fees to keep the bar open

i was just told that if we didn't book all the rooms by the month prior they would be released back into the system & the rate would not be guaranteed & people would only be getting them based upon availability
also, for them, if we booked 5 rooms.. the bridal suite became $200 instead of $295. (i've already booked 6 rooms so yippieeee)
as far as the guaranteeing goes.. she said 15 is the min w/o a financial obligation, if we wanted to block 20, we would be responsible for 15 rooms.. so however many rooms you blocked (if over 15) you had to guarantee 5 rooms less than that amount
maybe their minimums fluctuate depending on the time of year?

I am blocked at the Four Points for $135. The extra $10 could be because of the season. I still think $135 is reasonable for a hotel right off the LIE.
Anyhow, I was told the same things as MrsHandsome. We blocked 15 rooms for each night and are NOT responsible. If we had booked more, we would be responsible for those.
We are also paying extra for the bar to stay open late and getting the shuttle service.
Finally, we have the bridal suite booked for me for the night before and us for the night of. We didn't have any problems.
Gaby, who have you been speaking with at Four Points????

Re: Hotel Block prices??!!
which is closer to your RH? I would go to the hotel that is closest cause its more convenient.. honetsly I have paid over 200 a room before for my friends wedding so its not so over the top in my opinion.. but if its far from RH it might be easier to go with the cheaper option.

Laura- Did you see the bridal suite?
We were told they have like 5 suites and they are actually bigger than the bridal suite....the only difference is that the bridal suite has a jacuzzi. I am not sure the jacuzzi is necessary esp if it means we have less room in the room (the girls and i will probably have our hair and makeup done in the room)
I was wondering if you saw the suites and what you thought of them?

I didn't get a chance to see the suites. I saw the regular rooms and they were gorgeous. I knew about the other suites though, they told me on the phone. But FH LOVES to take baths and jacuzzis, so I figure it'll be perfect
I also haven't decided yet if I'm definitely staying there the night before. I booked it just in case, but I'm still deciding between there and home.
