Hotels in Hawaii...any recommendations??

So after much thought and consideration Dom and I arent going to Italy as originally planned for our honeymoon.(we dont want to get up early for tours or live out of suitcases...lol)

Instead, we have decided to go to Hawaii...

Does anyone have any good recommendations of hotels on the Big Island and the island that Waikiki is on?

In Oahu I wouldn't stay at the Sheraton, or if you do make sure you get a room in the renovated part of the hotel. I stayed there for business in Sept and was put in the unrenovated portion which was like a flash back to the 70's.
Just a warning. Oahu is kind of like going to a toned down cleaner NYC. If you are looking for a more laid back honeymoon I suggest going to some of the other island (ie Maui and Kauai).

We are going to Maui and Kuai. We are staying at the Hyatt in Kuai and the Sheraton Resort in Maui. Both were recommended by our travel agent.

I'm going to Hawaii also, and I'm curious why you're thinking of Oahu and Big Island as opposed to the other islands? I'm going to Oahu, Maui and Kauai. FM me if you want to chat about it and I'll tell you about my research/where I'm staying!

Re: Hotels in Hawaii...any recommendations??

We are going to:

Kuaia - Mariott

Big Island - Sheraton Kehou Resort - although my top pick there was the Mariott or Hyatt

Maui - we got a timeshare called Kahana Villas. We originally booked and then canceled the ResortQuest Kaanapali Beach Hotel that was a 1 bedroom condo w/kitchen.

Have never been before but this is what we booked. We decided against the Mariott or Hyatt in the Big Island cuz we are there only 2 nights to see the Volcano. The place we picked was much less expensive (and we won't really be in the room too much) and closer to the volcanos. If we were going for a longer time, I would have picked one of the other places.

I agree about the Sheraton (Waikii)... small rooms (and I stayed in the renovated part).. Beach was CROWDED & small.

I loved the BIG ISLAN (Fairmont Orchid) very HMish... & gorgeous (although limited nightlife/ more beautiful & laid back).

LOVED maui too- stayed at the Kea Lani (next to the Four Seasons) and I think it's a Fairmont too. There was tons to do in Maui & it was gorgeous. Restaurants were some of the best I've ever been to.

The Hyatt in Kauai is without question the best hotel I've ever been to!! I wish we would have stayed there for the entire honeymoon. I stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and was not impressed at all.
