woops, i should pointed out, like the article-i am refering to major cities, in this case NYC

LMAO.
My cousin was complaining about that recently. She was looking for a place in your neighborhood and said she's having a hard time finding something reasonable. First she was looking at Forest Hills, now I think LIC.

i'd hate to be the bearer of bad news but that prediction has been around for the last 3 fiscal years-my boss (that is seriously invested in real estate) and i saw this the other day and he laughed his as$ off~and told me it's not happening

yup!

ahhh i knew it was too good to be true, i thought something might've happened lol.

i wish it were true also, last yr when i saw this very same forecast, i thought 'that's great, maybe fh and i could get our own house', but property value went up up up~truth is, unless people around the world are suddenly turned off by america (and stop migrating all together) or the major cities stop attracting new residents (yeah right!), it's not happening anytime soon

yeah but theres always a cycle in the economy so at one point it has to go down

LOL so true, in LI they might've dropped but areas i grew up in like Astoria and even nearby LIC they're actually getting more expensive...LIC is getting WAAAAAAAY more expensive than it was bc it wasn't a really developed area but now they really have done it up and since you are 5 mins from the city and have an amazing view of the skyline they're building highrises and charging INSANE amounts.

In astoria a new building was built that hasn't opened yet and studio's start close to $600,000

This is going to sound bad but a few years ago people were telling me stay away from the neighborhood, it's not really safe......but my cousin was saying how its really turned around there.

I have no idea though, my sister lived in Astoria and I loved it there, but never ventured into LIC.

I think they're building some kinda luxury condo's or something like that.

oh yeah LIC was not a good neighborhood

yeah they're building Arris lofts in LIC, gorgeous big lofts for INSANE prices in the millions but meanwhile the back of the building i pass right behind it with the LIRR, yeah one side has an amazing view of the city but the others have the lirr train yard and the noise of the train.

Yeah I grew up in astoria

If they're millions, i doubt thats where she is looking.

One of FH's good friends grew up in Astoria as well. His parents still live there. I also have several friends there.

Also, my sisters FIL grew up in Astoria and a friend of his rented a really great place to them. They always used to bring us stuff from Lagooli's ....yumm, just thinkin about it makes me hungry.

La Guli's is still there. I hear you guys about Martha's, it's very good. But LaGuli's is the real deal I think, just an amazing old-school Italian bakery. If you'd gone there in the last 10 years or so, it was bought out from the original family, but just about a year or so ago, the La Gulis bought it back and I have to say, it's better than it ever was when that other family ran it.

trouble is, it's literally steps from my apt. so this pre-wedding diet is sooooo tough.

That's so funny, before I lived by LaGuli's, I lived off the 30th Ave stop. And I never really was so hot on Terrizzi's. It's ok though.....I'm sure you can agree that there are PLENTY of Italian bakeries in Astoria for everyone! Actually, for my diet's sake...i'm not so sure that's a great thing after all.
