How are you giving away your centerpieces at the reception?

How are you giving away your centerpieces at the reception?

I know some people have the band say whoevers birthday is the closest, others play the dollar game, etc...

Lately all the wedidngs I have gone to, no one says anything and people just take a few flowers each.

I would like people to take them. Just trying to figure out the best way?

I might let them duke it out themselves. But I really want my parents and my FILs to get one, so I am still not sure.

I'm letting everyone 'duke it out' for them - i knwo that my older relatives and FH's older relatives are going to just want them and stake dibs on them from the start - so no point in making it different...

I've heard of placing a picture under one chair of each table - and the person that was sitting on that chair gets it -

I think I'll just say that my mom and my fmil get them at their respective tables...and for the rest, I think maybe I'll just have the band announce that whosever birthday is closest to the wedding date gets the flowers...that way some conversation will be stimulated.

I was at a wedding where they made everyone stand up and we played hot potato with a napkin....we didn't know what we got if we were left with the napkin, but found out after that we got the centerpiece. I don't know if that's what I'm doing but it was kinda cute and broke the ice at the tables. of people who didn't all know each other.

they did something like that at a wedding i went to...except the person had to stand on their chair...could get dangerous!

or maybe i will just select a person from each table to get the flowers and give the list to the band...hmm...is that mean?

Thanks! I like all the ideas! Except for standing on the chair - I know a few glasses of wine and I would be tipsy!

we did pass the napkin. It was hysterical to watch. Everyone was laughing and it seemed to be a hit.

I have no clue..
We dont have flowers and the centerpieces are small in comparison to other weddings.

It's a VERY simple table we are setting. (more space on the table). Since the centerpieces aren't flowers they are more like favors so I was just gonna let the tables figure it out.

I just hope they don't think they should leave them there. We bought enough centerpieces (chinese lanters with etched glass) for the 10 tables to make up our minimum of 100 but I doubt we'll use them all. Jim likes them and hopes to keep a few.

I know! That is my fear by not doing something. I am paying so much money for the flowers and I want someone to have them! Of course I would want the mothers or grandmothers to get the head table ones, but everyone else is who I am concerned about. Thanks!

I went to a wedding and they did this. It was a hit. We laughed like crazy and passed the napkin around to the beat of the music which was very upbeat. I'm thinking of doing this for my wedding.

Ask your DJ - mine did something for the centerpiece giveaway. I can't remember what it was, unfortunately I wasn't paying attention at the time. But someone at each table won it.

jmo- but i do think it's not right to do. it would look like you are picking favorites at each table.

i know my mom and grandma (on fi's side too) will make it quite clear that they get the centerpieces because they are the mothers and grandmothers. as for the rest of the tables i had one neighbor already ask me how she could get it and i told her that whoever knows the bride the longest gets it. knowing that she would 'win' and be sure to tell everyone else what i had told her. it's not true but it was a subtle way to tell her to take it because i would have wanted her to get it anyway.

as far as any leftover centepieces i know my fmil will be eyeing them like a hawk and anyone who doesn't take it she will grab it! should prove fun on the busride back to the hotel!

I asked my DJ to handle this. I am sending flowers to my mom (and poss his) the next day, so I dont care if they dont get the cp.

I'm thinking of the bm putting a paper heart under a plate, and whoever gets the heart takes the stuff home.

on a side note, my mother used to sing in a wedding band, and after the wedding the bride would often ask her to take home one of hte centerpieces that got left behind. We always had lovely centerpieces on our kitchen table

Don't worry. there are always a few peopel, who would take the linesn off the tables if they could.
I presonally never leiked the concept of taking the centerpieces, but especailly with flowers, I guess soemone mas as well enjoy them.
I have to make sure my place doesn't need the containers back, but really I'm not planning to give them away.

Just a few of the older ladies may take them. I know my great aunt loves these things.
