How are you involving your FMIL in the planning?

How are you involving your FMIL in the planning?

I want to make a special emphasis on including my FMIL in the planning, FH is her only son and I wanted to make sure that she was involved just as my FSILs and my side of the family. I feel like I need to involve my mom as well, but since she's around me all the time, and kind of 'sees and hears' more about the wedding, I feel like I need to really focus on involving my FMIL.

Right now, we just booked our vendors (on our own, really, without discussing much of it with either side of the family), so I was just curious at what point did you involve her or if there were specific things you asked for her input on?

Thanks for any suggestions!

My FMIL just moved to Vegas, so I don't have to worry about that....

I have really booked everything with just my FH, but I will bounce ideas off of her, and we brought her when we booked the reception hall. She really likes to be involved, so i try. She is a wonderful woman

My FMIL did not know about anything until after we booked things. My mom is one of my best friends, so she sees & hears everything but the key to the entire wedding is that FH & I are paying, so no one's input is actually necessary

I try to include her in the planning by showing her pics of things, or giving her detailed descriptions. FH and I really booked everything ourselves (w/o any parents too involved) but once I saw my sample centerpiece, ordered the invites, ordered the BM dresses, etc....I would show her pics of everything. I also brought her to see my dress once I had purchased it.
Also, I am going to have her make the bathroom baskets...she likes doing cute, crafty stuff.

She's not involved...really no one is...just FH & I.

I think I have done an ok job at keeping my FMIL involved. I tell her about appointments we have and she always asks me how it went. I took both my parents and FIL's to a showcase at our reception hall so they can see the place and try the food. The day I went looking for my gown, I bought it the first day I went shopping, but I called her that day and told her I was getting a gown and wanted to know if she wanted to see it, and she came down right away and looked at it. (It was close to her house).

I am also planning on asking my FMIL if there are any family traditions that she would like me to include in the wedding. I know what you mean though, I want her to feel like she has been involved throughout the planning...

my fmil came with me when i went dress shopping and she came with us to see the hall, the second time - we went alone the first time. other then that, she may be involved in the shower, but not too much else

I have mentioned things as we go along, I showed her the planning album I made, and we took her to one hall with us....Other than that Im not having her involved too much

I asked my FMIL what she wanted to be involved in but she didn't really say. They came out to look at reception sites, they are coming to the tasting, I showed her pictures of the dress, and they are planning the rehearsal dinner. Thats about it. I know what you are saying, not wanting to leave them out, but maybe if you just ask her you'll get an idea what she feels like being a part of.

She is making the wraps for the flowers using \the material that matches my BM dresses. She is coming with me to my first fitting & I have told her everything as we did things. Both parents gave us money for the wedding but we are paying the bulk. The only thing we got both parents input on was the hall other than that we told them about it afterward. I love my FMIL so it isn't a bother at all to have her involved, she is always willng to help out. She is also going to help out with the favors (we are goign to wrap them & put ribbion on them).

fmil barely takes an interest in fh so we are not going out of our way to involve her. basically, when i send emails to my mom/bridesmaids updating them on stuff, i include her on the distribution list.

Very much so, she is very excited for us and I wouldn't have it any other way! She helped me pick invitations out last night and I found my dress with her!

Dare I say ditto? She has two daughters. She can plan their weddings. I don't like interference and we already have differences of opinion.
