So I am considering creating a 'fake' registry - for a flat screen tv that me and FH want to get when we move next year......if we register for it, we can get the completion discount of 10%
I know that no one will get it for us because it is so expensive and I will have a really small shower (maybe 20 people)....
is it really bad to register just to get the discount at the end?
I'm feeling a little guilty...but then again, who cares?

Re: How bad is this?
Hm, I understand why you would want to put the TV on your registry, I'm just trying to think of how I would react when seeing it on someone else's registry. I'd probably, honestly, be apalled by it. Is there any way you can express that you don't expect it to be bought? Or if you don't care what people think, then go for it! I'd also find out if there are any restrictions on the completion discount - since most people don't register for such large ticket items.
Edited - the more I think about it the more I think that most people would probably assume that you don't expect them to purchase it. So if you can get the discount on it then why not!

Don't even worry about it. I did the same thing at Bloomingdales. If you created a registry with a value of $10,000 they gave you the In Style wedding book for free, so I registered there just to get the book. I won't even tell people I'm registered at Bloomingdales because they'll probably die when they see the $1500 silverware set I registered for just to get to 10,000 as fast as I could.

Re: How bad is this?
I registered at Target for the TV - I got this thing in the mail if I added 10 things I can get a free $20 gift card. So I made it not searchable online and I won't tell anyone I registered there.
Now if we get the tv after the wedding from there we can get a 10% discount.
Ok, now this is getting addicting - I found a bed and 2 rugs that I like at JC Penny - they offer 15% completion discount......now I'm thinking about doing that one too and not telling anyone.
Help I am addicted to registries

Hey Jenise,
I know Bloomingdales, Fortunoffs, and Macy's have bridal registries - you can look into them to see if you can register for a bedroom set.
I mean something that is a few thousand bucks, with 10% off, you are saving HUNDREDS of dollars.
Worth looking into!

He!! NO- don't feel bad. If it wasn't for you registering in the store in the first place, the store wouldn't be making $ off your guests. I'd say go for it! As for putting it on the registry...can you add it to the registry AFTER the shower when most gifts were already purchased? If so, not many people will see it and think 'who are they kidding w/ an expensive gift on the registry' AND you will still get the discount. - best of both worlds.
Now, I have to go steal your idea and add a few things to mine hehe

Re: How bad is this?
Haha....thats awesome! We did most of our registry at Fortunoff and we will be registering for a lot more there so we will get their gift certificates and completion stuff. I was going to throw a lot of stuff on the registry like really last minute (mostly furniture that we like)...the night before my wedding so we can use the gift certificates and discount to complete. I love it and it is an awesome idea!

For Fortunoff -
Do you have to get their credit card in order to get the reward points?

Yes. Even if people have purchased off your registry already, they will count those purchases too!

Re: How bad is this?
don't feel guilty! that's what registries are for - no store is going to expect that you get everything you register for, so how is this any different?
