How come it takes some SO long to get a closing date?

we KNEW when we signed the contract when we were closing (give a day or 2). there was a date stated on the contract but the seller has scheduled the moving van for a specific date (exactly a month after stated closing). we were notified at that time (almost a month ago) when we are closing.

it seems that many of you are unsure of the exact closing date until about 2 weeks prior to closing. why is that?

Good question! In our case, I'm blaming the bank for not informing our attorney that they had approved our loan. Our attorney did not want to order a survey until he knew the loan was approved.

oh. our attorney started the title search upon receiving the executed contract. he said that a survey was not required because the one on file is from 2001. i also know that our broker contacted our attorney the day we locked our rate for a copy of the contract.

i guess w/ so many people involved, it is not unsual for things like this to happen.

It is so frustrating. You want to make all these plans, like movers, etc and you can't. Our problem was our bank's attorney was not calling our lawyer back to let him know we were clear to close

we have the same problem however..........

legally, the seller has up to 30 days after the estimated closing date in the contract?

does it say on or about? or just flat out this date?

well thats at least that the bull&^%# my attorneyhas been telling me

our contract reads 'on or about'. the seller is the one that wants the 30 days. our lawyer said that there is no law stating that any party has 30 days it is just a common practice in real estate.
