This is a very long and boring story, sorry~ nothing special.
For months, Brian kept telling me that he was looking for rings, and once his tax returns came back, we would get engaged. Last year, on Valentines Day, he asked me if I would like to go to Tri County to look at rings that weekend. I was sooo happy, but skeptical because we had gone looking right before 09/11, and then he wound up working 16-20 hour shifts and we couldn't spend much time together up until January. So after 4 1/2 years, I felt like I would never get engaged. We went that weekend and Brian knew that I really wanted a heart stone. Tri County didn't have too many, they all looked mis-shaped, so I left there very disappointed. Also because Brian seemed absolutely clueless when the jewelers were talking to him, so I figured he would get screwed when he finally went to get it or just chicken out. A few days later, I had bought him a book WEDDINGS FOR DUMMIES, and he had a good laugh reading the book. Over the few weeks, I would wake up in the middle of the night and find him engrossed reading up on the diamonds.
On March 19th, his tax check came in. I was like oh, look, it's tax check time. I figured he was going to ignore me, and he did. That night, he came to bed much later than usual. He said he was watching TV. We both went to work, and when I signed on my email, there was a picture of a heart stone from Ashford.com with all of the dimensions, and a cut and paste of what they were supposed to be according to the WEDDINGS FOR DUMMIES guides. He wrote 'Will this one do?' I wrote back YES YES YES YES YES!!!! He was so worried about buying a bad stone he had me call a girl I knew who knew someone at EGL and ask her if it looked ok. She said it was beautiful, so we bought it that day. It came on Friday, and he wanted to hold it until he figured out a way to propose. That night, I went with my friend out to RED LOBSTER for dinner. Wow...talk about food poisoning! I threw up (sorry!) from 11 at night until 5 pm Saturday. Brian was working nights, and he was supposed to come by the house to show my parents the ring. I was in bed and after he showed them, he came down to my room to see if i was ok. I heard him coming down the steps, and I was curled up under the blanket with my head covered. The lights were off, and when he turned them on and said , 'Hi baby', all he saw was my hand extending from under the blankets with my ring finger pointing out. So I replied to his hello with a, 'Yes...' He said Yes, what? I said yes, I will marry you... He goes will it make you feel all better, I said yes. He pulls out the box, and I said come on, do it right...down on one knee... he shows me the ring, I burst out crying and he goes, Laurie, will you marry me and I am like YES YES YES YES YES!!!!
So I wasn't even supposed to be home, I was supposed to be at my aunts house for my cousins birthday party, so when I call to tell them all this, I am like yes I am engaged, and no I am not pregnant (because they heard I was getting sick all night...) Turns out it took Brian soooooo long to ask me to marry him because the whole going to a store buying a ring experience freaked him out. THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET!!!
