How did he do it?

I dont know if this has been posted before but how did he do it and where you surprised?

We have been together for 6.5 years and have talked about it off and on. He always said that he would never do it when it would compete with something else, such as christmas, birthday or V-day.
We were out shopping on saturday (12/16/06) for christmas and I had asked for a right hand ring. We went to the mall and split up since I had to shop for him and he had to shop for me. He called me on the phone and asked me to meet him and he showed me a catolog to pick out some jewerly that I liked. I picked a beautiful circle neckleace and a beautiful right hand ring. In the process of this, i pointed to an e-ring and said 'well, i really like that' he said 'keep dreaming' LOL

move forward to thursday night........

We went out with a couple of friends for a few drinks before the holidays. We left around 1:30 since I had work in the morning. We have been having problems with our truck making strange noises and leaking oil out of no where. So we pull over on the way home cause he hears a tick. He leaves the truck running and pops the hood and goes around front. he comes to my side and says he thinks he has figured it out. I get out of the truck and he is on his knee in front with his hand under the truck. I complain and say ' so what is it this time' (i have had it with this darn truck) and he says ' i think its one of these f-ing things) and pulls his hand from under the truck and he had the ring and box in his hand.

I started crying and screaming in the middle of the street at 2 in the morning. I never answered him and he had to ask 'well, is that a yes?'

We got home and I had to call my mom and he said that I was crazy for waking her up. I knew she would be waiting up since he had gone to the house that morning to ask for my hand.

Sorry so long but I was the best night of my life.

Re: How did he do it?

We were out to dinner at Trumpets on the Bay in Eastport and Tom was acting weird the whole car ride there. He couldnt hold a conversation...not even about sports!! (thats not normal for him at all lol) Not even 10 minutes after we got seated, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!! Of course Isaid yes and the entire restaurant celebrated with a champagne toast. It was the BEST moment of my life!!

I thought that was all he had planned for the night...but I was wrong!! He had also arranged to have both of our families and friends waiting at his house to congratulate us.

If you are looking for a really romantic restaurant you should go to Trumpets on the Bay!! We sat right next to a fireplace, and it overlooks the bay. Gorgeous!!

Re: How did he do it?

Ok, my fiance and I have been together for 6.5 years and I always thought he wouldn't do it until after college. I had been pressuring him the semester before because I had overheard a convo that my mom was having and I heard that he had his grandmother's ring so I was like 'Well he has a ring so why won't he commit?'

Anyways, turns out he was planning to ask this summer and I had no idea. He was telling all of his family and at his brother's wedding and he asked my step-dad that day permission to marry me.

A little less than a month later, he calls me and he says let's go to the beach. (we see each other everyday so that wasn't weird at all) I wasn't really feeling it but I said okay anyway since we hadn't added anything to our beach glass collection in awhile. We get to the beach and we're walking and I was holding my flip-flops and he takes them from me and throws them on the sand and we keep walking. Two minutes later he says 'Baby, I have a confession to make, I didn't bring you here to look for beach glass, I brought you here to ask you a question.' Then he got down on one knee and he asked will you marry me? And then I cried for like a minute a finally shook my head yes. Totally blindsided me and it was the most perfect day of my life.

Re: How did he do it?

We were on vacation in Disney, which is our 'thing' since we've been there 3 times in less than 2 years. I knew he had asked me for my sister's cell # so he could text her about a present for me...for Christmas. This didn't seem too weird, but I got a feeling. My sister totally played it off like nothing, and we had talked that maybe he would propose within the year....but she acted like no way he's doing it yet! I knew something special was coming, bc he had suprised me another time in Disney when he took me to swim with the dolphins...so it really could have been anything.

Anyway, we have been trying to get reservations at Cinderella's castle forever, but they are ALWAYS sold out. He told me he had a friend at work that has family who works in Disney and they were able to squeeze us in for December 14th (the 14th is our day). When I heard that I was like he's going to do something on that day. whatever the suprise was. That day he told me he had a suprise for me, but it would be at night.

So, we went around the park and to Cinderella's Castle for breakfast. He was a lil nervous bc at first they couldn't find our reservations, but it was really bc he had an enagagement package and they didn't want me to accidentally find out.

So we finally got to our table after taking pictures with Cinderella, and breakfast was really good except he wasn't really eating that much. So at the end of breakfast he's like 'I think we get dessert with this' and I was like 'dessert for breakfast?' LOL. Then he's like 'remember the suprise I told you about?' and the waiter brought over a beautiful plate with a cover, like a really fancy dessert would be in. I saw rose petals peeking out from under the lid, it was then that I knew.

So the waiter lifted up the cover and in the middle of the rose petals there was a glass slipper and a rose in the middle, with the ring around the closed rose inside the slipper. On the outside the slipper was engraved 'Will you be my princess?' and then our names and the date.

He got up and walked over and got on his knee...and I don't remember too much of what he said LOL I was shaking! He said will you marry me? And I told him I loved him and wouldn't stop hugging him LOL. Then I was like 'Oh, yes, of course!' Then I kept hugging him and after like 5 mins. he's like can I get up now? LOL The whole restaurant was applauding and they brought us champagne. He also had a professional photographer as part of the package so we have like 30 pictures of him on his knee and putting the ring on and everything. I felt like a real princess! Then they did bring over dessert, a white chocolate slipper filler with chocolate on like a cake and fruit. And then he was like...good I can actually eat now! LOL

Re: How did he do it?

Mishmosh...my story sounds like yours

As you all prob know my FH, Chris is in the Marine Corps and stationed in San Diego. Therefore, I knew he wouldn't be home for my 21st birthday (October 13th) which actually fell on a Friday this year. So I made plans with some friends to go into the city to celebrate, but they weren't definite plans. However, Chris kept asking what exactly I was doing for my birthday- and I kept telling him I had no definite plans but most likely would be going into the city. He was trying to persuade me to just have dinner with my family on my bday and stay local in town at the bars with some friends and then go out Saturday night (since he said my family would like that). I considered it but again- no definite plans.

So Thursday night (the night before my bday) I was getting ready to go to the bar with my brother and cousins since I was technically 21 at midnight. But my brother said we should wait until 1:00am. I hated this idea cause I was tired nad had work the next morning, but I waited. And at 12:30am there was a knock on my front door, I was like who the hell could be here at htis time. I open the door and there is CHRIS...he suprised me by coming home from Thursday nigth till the next Wed (I was so happy what a great present). But before we went out he was chatting with my dad for awhile- that was weird bec my dad is usually asleep by 11:30 the latest

So the next day after I got home from work...we went into the city fro dinner at Tavern on the Green. I never expected anything. However he was not really speaking in the car and that was weird and he didnt even really eat his steak- VERY WIERD...but at dinner there were flowers and a bottle of wine for my bday it was so sweet. Then after dinner the waiter comes over for dessert. I said I didnt want anything. SO about 5 minutes later the waiter walks over with like a cake platter and says who ordered dessert. And I just said 'Um we said we didnt want any' to my FH and the next thing there he was on his knee next to me and the cake platter with red and white rose petals with the ring sitting in the middle and he asked for my hand in marriage. The resturant was cheering and had champange it was great. However I had to ask him what he exactly said to me since he had a little speech cause I was just lookin at the ring crying... They even had their professional photographer take pics and frame them for us!!

Sorry for the long post...

Re: How did he do it?

It's a long story because I wrote out ALL the details! LOL It's something I never want to forget...

Our Engagement Story

I couldn’t believe that I was waking up at 3:30 in the morning, but that is what James and I had to do to be in Middletown NY by 6:00 AM for a hot air balloon ride that was given to him by his job. Surprisingly, James didn’t make a fuss when he had to get up at 4:00 AM. We left the house at 4:30, and were on our way when we realized that we had forgotten our camera. I was already in a bad mood because my cell phone wasn’t charging properly, and it was driving me crazy. So, having to turn around for the camera just made me more aggravated. I hate being late, but James reassured me that we would only be ten minutes late. We were five minutes away from Middletown, when James received a phone call from the balloon company asking us where we were. Normally I would have told him to speed, but since there was a State Trooper on our left, he couldn’t.

When we arrived at the meeting place, a Hampton Inn directly off Route 17, we saw three other couples and no sign of the other two couples from James’ job. James eventually asked Chris, the owner of Above the Clouds, the balloon company where they were, and he said that they were scheduled for the following day. I asked James if that bothered him that he wouldn’t be enjoying the day with his co-workers, and he said he was fine with it. We got into a van that was going to take us to a small local airport. James and I went to the back of the van, and I started laughing because the guy in front of me was putting on his seatbelt. I found it ironic that this guy was so concerned about his safety while on the ground and in a few minutes he would be 500 feet in the air in a balloon.

When we got to the airport there were two balloons waiting to be inflated, a seven person basket and a three person basket. Chris escorted us to the three person basket and James asked why we were getting to be by ourselves. Chris said that the numbers just worked out that way, but I asked James if he thought it was because he was the heaviest of the eight people. It did seem logical. Chris introduced us to Tim, our balloon pilot, and we waited around for our balloon to inflate. The seven person balloon was being inflated first, and it was really cool to see how big it was. Then Chris, who is also a pilot, fired it up with hot air, and the balloon began to float away. It was exciting, and I got some good pictures.

Finally, it was time for our balloon to take off. We had to climb into the basket, and when Tim fired up the balloon with hot air it felt good because I was freezing. Then we began to float away. The balloon kept rising, and we began to fly over trees. It was fun. We laughed when we crossed over Interstate 84 and truckers kept blowing their horns and waving at us. Then we started to fly over some farmland and the scenery was beautiful. Chris radioed Tim suggesting that he should take some pictures of us with our camera, which he did. Five minutes later, Tim decided to take some more pictures and when he took the camera, I noticed James was holding a ring in his hand. I became very confused, and then James asked me to marry him. I was kind of shocked. I knew that we would be getting engaged soon, come on, I’ve been with him for 4 ½ years, but I didn’t think this was the day. Of course I said yes, but I began wondering if my reaction was a good one. I was so confused that I didn’t know if I was smiling or if I had a puzzled look on my face. Thankfully, the pictures proved that I was indeed happy. The whole balloon ride was a hoax.

A month before the balloon ride, James emailed Bacardi USA, his main supplier from work, asking them for some letterhead and envelopes. They were reluctant to just send him letterhead and envelopes, but were more than happy to accommodate him when he told them of his plan to marry me. James emailed Bacardi a phony letter stating that he and two other people from his company won a contest for selling the most tequila. The letter stated that he and the other two co-workers had won two tickets each for a day of hot air ballooning. When the letter came to the house, I thought nothing of it because Bacardi gives James great perks like that all the time. James is a great liar and acted all confused. He stated he wasn’t aware that there was a contest, which of course there wasn’t. The next day James brought the letter in to work to inquire about the balloon ride. He came home and told me that we were scheduled for Sunday October 29th. A couple of days later itinerary from the balloon company was mailed to us. We eventually had to reschedule to Saturday November 4th because it was way too windy on the 29th.

So now I am flying in a balloon, engaged, with a beautiful ring on my finger. FINALLY!!! I was really happy. I even asked him earlier in the day if he was going to propose to me and he said that it would have been too uncomfortable to propose in front of all his co-workers and a balloon pilot. Of course there were no co-workers because of his scam. The ring was a little loose, and James was a nervous wreck that the ring would fall off my finger and get lost. So, he made me put my glove back on to protect it from falling off. Here I was, waiting all this time for a ring, and I couldn’t even look at it. It was very frustrating. As the balloon ride came to an end, the pilot was having a difficult time finding a landing area. After two attempts he found an area and we were ready to hit the ground. The basket hit the ground at an angle and began to tip forward, which caused me to almost fall out, then it skipped about thirty feet and did the same thing, and again, I almost fell out. It finally stopped, but the basket tipped all the way, and we had to crawl out. James was yelling “I survived a balloon crash!”

A van with a couple of kids from the balloon company met up with us a couple of minutes later. Tim met up with them and took out a bottle of Champagne. I always dreamed that I would celebrate with Champagne when I got engaged, so Tim’s timing was perfect. He toasted our engagement, and it was really nice. Then we found out that the other balloon was having its own problems. Their chase van got stuck in the mud, and we later found out that they had a crash landing too. When we all got back to the Hampton Inn it was weird receiving congratulations from the people in the other balloon. Chris had told everyone that we got engaged.

To celebrate our engagement, big spender took me to Denny’s for breakfast. He later made up for it when we got back to Cedarhurst. Since the ring was too loose, I wanted to get a temporary ring guard. So, we stopped at the first jewelry store we saw, and they didn’t have one. Then we went to another jewelry store, and while waiting for some help I couldn’t believe what I saw, a diamond and pink sapphire pendant hot air balloon. It was so cute. After all, I’ve never seen a hot air balloon pendant. I asked if I could see it, winked at James and said “this would make a nice Christmas gift.” I showed her my engagement ring and asked about a ring guard. They couldn’t help me, but I felt the need to tell her that the reason I loved the pendant so much was because we just got engaged on a hot air balloon. She seemed just as excited as I was, and told everyone in the store. At that point James said, “We’ll take it.” When we got home, James called his jeweler, and told him about the ring being too big. He asked us to come in so he could fix it, and thirty minutes later the ring fit perfect.

Re: How did he do it?

My fiance proposed to me at Nassau Coliseum. My parents were there, and so was his mother. He had been planning it out since July of 2006. He kept a record of everything he was planning. He pulled it off really well, because I had no idea what was going on. He contacted someone from the New York Islanders and he had it worked out were someone was going to come over to where we were sitting and ask me if I wanted to answer a 'trivia question'. I at first put up a fight, (a little shy to be on a scoreboard!!) then I gave in and said OK, I will answer the trivia question. When the first period was almost over, the woman and a camera man came over to us and they brought a few of the Islanders Ice Girls (sort of like hockey cheerleaders) with them, and they asked me what my name is and were my fiance and I were from (which they already knew all this because this was all planned out from the get go). One of the ice girls said my fiance, and my family can help me answer the trivia question. Then they told me to look up at the scoreboard, and my trivia question will appear. I looked up, and the question appeared VERY SLOWLY!!! The scoreboard read: 'Melinda will you marry me? Love, David'. I was so shocked and so happy. I couldn't believe that this was happening and how romantic it was how he proposed. To this day I look back on that day, and, it just puts a smile on my face. It made me realize how much we love each other. Both of our families were very happy about this. The ring was the most amazing ring. I love it so much. He picked out the ring all on his own which makes it even more special. He knew that I would love it and that, that ring was what I would like. It was the most amazing feeling that I got when he asked me to marry him. It was a wonderful feeling. Every girl should get to feel this wonderful feeling of love, happiness, excitement and joy. I am so happy and in love with a great guy. I can't wait to marry him.
